while talking to my wife last night,i discovered, that she does not see me as really being in NURSING SCHOOL . Her take is that i am kind of in nursing school but i will not be a real nurse intill i become an rn.

I tried telling her i will be a nurse and in mi there is a very thin line between what a lpn and a rn can do. she was not having it.

what do you guys say when people say your not a nurse.

Ummm.. what does she think the "N" in LPN/LVN stands for? LVNs are very much nurses. They simply have a more limited scope than RNs.

Any possibility she's jealous of your acheivements and your work toward your career/future?

LPNs are definitely nurses. But don't kid yourself, there is not a 'fine line' between LPN and RN. The scope of practice and responsibility is quite different.

I just re asked her and she said she truely did not know what lpn stood for.

As far as her she has a BA in math and physics.

As an lpn did you call your self a nurse.

I know the answer. It took me a while to make my choice on which school/field i was going to go in to.

It was between lpn or respiratory school

How did your SPOUSE not know what LPN stood for when you are actively enrolled in the program? I find that a little curious.

LPN's are not really seen as nurses especially compared to RN's and neither are they respected the same way as well. I know that LPN's are nurses BUT, I will feel like a real nurse once I am an RN and will feel more secure in my profession.

Wow thats the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard - yes of course you are in nursing school.

A LPN is a License Practical NURSE

Please, don't be a detriment to the profession and sell an entire group of people short. This is an ugly attitude and it should not be perpetuated.

I wasn't being detrimental to the profession I was being real as of how majority of the people in this world look at LPN's. LPN's are not seen as "real nurses" to a lot of people like the RN's and a lot of people do not respect LPN's like they do the RN's and let me rephrase my last sentence, I would feel more comfortable as an RN because of the job market for LPN's and RN's have better opportunities and are more marketable.

I don't think it matters what people think I am. I know I'm becoming a nurse. And the people I will take care of will be grateful for my caring. As long as I'm taking care of people and appreciated by my pts. That's all that matters

Amen the only thing that really matter are the patients lives you will help make whole. The field of nursing is for people who take their oath and promise to take care of others as they would themselves, or better. If you spend time worrying about a title then God help you, that's the wrong focus. Do you think a patient that is coding cares if the RN get their first, I doubt it. I don't need a title to validate my accomplishments. I am leaving the Teaching profession to become a nurse, I was great at teaching and know I am going to be great at nursing. This is for me and my patients. A goal that I set had a very long time ago. I hope I don't sound harsh, but don't make our hard work seem second to none.

Good Luck and God Bless all
