Hello, I'm a pre-nursing student, preparing to enter the LPN program next fall. I was talking with an RN student in class yesterday who told me that she didn't go to the LPN program because jobs are scarce for LPNs. Is that true????? I live in the Dallas area, but hope to live up north in Montana or Colorado. Is what she said true???? Thank you so much

It is true, in a sense, that hospitals in many areas don't seem to hire LPNs like they used to, and they are limited to nursing homes, assisted living, and home care. It totally depends on where you are living. I'd check it out...look in papers, ask some of the professors in school, and other LPNs in your area to see if this is the case for you.

I live in Fort Worth, which is in the Dallas metro area. I have always had my pick of jobs, and have never had any problems finding employment with my LVN licensure. Whenever I fax 10 resumes, I typically have at least 5 or 6 human resources managers calling me back with the hopes of setting up interviews with me.

Here's a little background. I have been an LVN since early last year. I earned $47,000 last year, which was my first year of working as an LVN.

The job market for LVNs is excellent in DFW.

OOOOOOO!!!! I wanna be your friend!!!;) I'm going to school at Northlake/El Centro right now...and I hope to get into the LVN program. I think I'll be ok getting in. I do want to work in a LTC or Nursing home, but I was just worried about job opportunities. Hopefully if I can get on my feet, I can eventually move to Montana and go to RN school. That's down the road though! Thank you co much for your advice!

In Florida it's true in hospitals, scant number of new grad LPN jobs.

But in long term care, LPN jobs are aplenty.

Good luck!

In Wyoming nursing homes are always looking for LPN's.

In Kennewick, WA there is an ad in the paper right now for a full-time night shift LPN. This job is in a nursing home-(Life care center of Kennewick) and it includes a sign on bonus of $5,000. They also need a full time day shift LPN with a $3,000 sign on bonus and an evening time full time LPN with a $4,000 sign on bonus.;)

labelle, they almost all say one year experience, you can try by sending in your resume. The worst is they say they want experience, your a nurse your in demand, pardon my french and screw the ones who don't demand you.

A lot of places will say they need one year experience but go ahead and put in your applications. I graduated a year ago and was hired right after I took my NCLEX at a doctors office and I love working there. Good luck!

I live in Connecticut, and there seems to be a descent amount of jobs. As for the hospital, it depends on what department. Like one of the local hospitals here hires LPNs, some work the floors but most seem to end up in dialysis. The pay isn't much, but the experience is great especially if you float. Most of the job openings are for LTC, and home care. It also depends on the shift your looking for. I prefer days (like most of everyone else), and it seemed to me that there were no jobs because the shift I was looking for at the time, was almost NEVER available. The shift that seems to have the most openings is 3p-11p, which is not for me. But I agree with the other posters, just look around. Many times, for instance here, a position will be open, but not posted in the newspaper, or anywhere. The job I have now, is f/t days (once again very hard to get), I got from just taking a day and filling out apps. at a variety of places. Congrats for choosing nursing as a career and good luck to you.
