Applying to California DOC LVN/MTA

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Just I thought I'd share my experience with you guys and anyone who might be or is interested.

I am currently a LVN student and have about 2 months left until I finish the program. I attended a job workshop at Soledad Prison around May and turned in my application packet at the beginning of June. About 2 weeks ago I received a call back to schedule a physical test (which is tomorrow) over in Fresno, CA. It consists of about 4-5 tests, which I wish I had a bit more time to prepare since I haven't been fit since the LVN program started 8 months ago.

If I pass (and I really hope so!), I will update if you guys want to know. Or just message me if anyone is interested. :)

I'd like to hear how it turns out for you Lorra. Its probably not realistic to try to get a job out there if you don't know anyone or don't have much cash, correct? I'm stuck at a low paying job in NW Ohio. It at an assisted living facility and pays about 14/hr and I also work a couple days a week at a nursing home. As it is I may have to file bankruptcy as I can't seem to pay everything being single with a mortgage, car payments, student loans and credit cards. Even if I file to get rid of the credit cards, I still will barely break-even. It is an easy job usually, but there are no benefits either besides free food. I've lived in this area all my life, but have no real friends and only a few close family members. 73k or something even close sounds like a ton of money. You can't even make that with an RN around here, but I'm sure cost of living is a lot higher out there. Here $500/m is about average for an apartment or cheaper house payment. I worked at a jail for about a year, nursing home and assisted living for the past year so I have some experience, but I never seem to get an interview when I apply anywhere. I probably messed up when I had a chance for one at a VA center a few months back, but it was a 3 hour drive so I did'nt go. Then I got a call for one a little closer and played phone tag for a week before I gave up on that one. I recently got a call for a possible psych interview and the lady told me to email if I was interested and never heard anything. Granted I don't answer the phone as I'm afraid it may be a creditor, but I would think they would leave a message if it was about a job.
