anyone considering going back to school to become an RN?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Hello. I was just wondering if anyone was considering going back to school and becoming an RN. If so how are you going to go about doing it. A bridge program? If so which one do you have in mind. Just curious. Thanks.

How is that program? I am actually considering that one myself, but isn't that the one where you have to go to New York for the weekend of clinical at the end? Not sure if I would really want to go that far... :uhoh3:

I am just getting started. Chose this program because of the finance availability and the study guides. I don't know what state you are in, but there are clinicals at several different locations through U.S. You can write to me at [email protected] if you have more questions. Gail

I am currently 2nd semester LPN to RN program. I will be finished May 2006. I am in a local Community College program.

I am also doing the bridge thing. Im in my 2nd semester of RN school as well. We got no orientation. You hit the ground running or else. I've been a LPN for 3 years and now am back for the final inning. It's funny, when I got out of LPN school I never waned to go back to school. Then I saw what all LPN s know to be true. We carry the same pt load to make less and noone will hire us (at least here). It is very limited for LPNs here in North Carolina.

I'v been an LPN for 4 years now and am currently taking pre reqs to start the ASN program in May. I'm going through IVY Tech. Right now I am taking 2 classes a semester and working 40 hours a week, plus 2 kids and a husband. It is rough but will be worth it. Plus I remember how quick Lpn school went and hope Rn will be as quick. You just have to keep your goal in mind and think of how many more opportunities you will have available. I also have to keep telliing myself nothing good in life is easy!! :p

Yes, am currently looking for work in a city not far from where I now live so I can go back after 5 years of being an LPN & hopefully finally get the RN....if it tells you anything, I have an 18yo son who now wants to go to college to be an RN as well...tried to train him better, lol

I just applied to Tarleton State university LVN to BSN and Weatherford College LVN to ADN . Both are in the North Texas area and I am just waiting to see If I get accepted... And It's a long nerve racking wait .:)

I'm going back...want to start this fall '05 but still haven't decided where or what type of program yet. I'm looking into a 1 year LPN to RN program but would unfortunately have to travel some & get used to less working hours/$$ while attending school :o ...lots of decisions to make!!

sooooo tell me more about how you can do it in a year. I'm very interested but struggling to find a program that wont take yearssss!! Thanks!

So how do you like the RN program? I'm an LPN from Ivy Tech's Fort Wayne location. I've been out 1 year, and have worked in LTC since graduation. I have since discovered Hospitals won't hire LPNs, and the patient to nurse ratios in LTC have run from a low of 20 to a high of 50 (ugh). What has your experience been like?:)

I am trying to get back in my local community college to get my RN. It is a very competative!! We have to pass a Nursing Med. calc. test at 95%, take the TEAS test, and interview process. After all that, if we have enough "points", 10 people are accepted into a 5 week "Bridge program". This is just an accelerated review of the entire LPN year. Then, IF there are spaces in the RN program (someone needs to flunk out, or decide not to go on to the RN year), we are in! The bridge program is $1800.00 and only good for 2 years!! It seems almost impossibe to make it, but I am giving it all I have!! If you really want it, it is worth the work! Good Luck!

I'm working in LTC, and yes the pt/nurse ratio sucks!!! As far as Ivy Tech goes, I'm not quite sure what I think about them. Some of my professors I was impressed with, others I think I knew more than they did :uhoh3: (and that's scary) But I think you will have that anywhere. The staff isn't very helpful as far as loans go and etc. I've ended up paying for my last 2 semesters out of pocket d/t them messing up on my loan application :angryfire I think our hospitals around here hire LPN's but not sure. Are you going to go for the LPN to RN transition program?

Uh oh. I didn't realize that the bridge program requires experience. I was going to do my LPN this fall and then go straight into RN school the following fall. Do your clinical hours during the LPN program count for anything?

oh so i'm not the only one here that's debating on which program is the quickest!yeah if i decide to go back to school i would only be able to work on the weekends cause me and my husband are the only two that watch our 3 little ones.

Thank you so much for putting your e-mail address in here for me to write to. I thought it might be easier to write in here, though. I was just wondering if you could give me any information at all about the program? I know you are just getting started, but anything you cann tell me at all is wonderful. For instance, how did you apply for the program? How do you know that there are more locations for clinicals? Did they send you a list or something liked that? I would love to go to a "real" school, but with other financial responsibilities, I am not sure that would be possible. Want to get something rolling by the fall of this year. let me know as soon as you can. please! :) Thanks again
