hello everyone, I will soon be completing a lvn program that will end jan 2016. I wanted to know are there any lvn-ADN programs that start end of feb/early march that require little prereqs andonly an entrance exam? I'm based in California and willing to relocate outside of ca. I was referred to a lvn-rn bridge program in Wisconsin, which will cost $7k out of state tuition, little prereqs, but starts end of august. I was also looking into PMI(pima medical institute) in az and California tuition $20k and although the program starts in march, its not regionally or nationally accredited and not accepted by western governor university. my future goal is to do the online bsn at western governor. thanks in advance

Girlfriend... idk... all ADN programs are gonna require pre reqs for graduation. You need to look for a certificate RN program, they still offer them in Utah.
Of course there is ALWAYS EVEREST college.... go in with no pre reqs and you come out with an RN ADN 40,000 later :/
Thanks Jen! Sorry if I sound clueless,*blush* but what is a RN certificate? Do you know the name of a school in Utah? :)
Everest I believe is 65k at ontario campus and you can't get your bsn later. My coworker is a rn that went to everest and she said it was the best move for her :)
I tell you becoming a nurse is a detour road trip to vegas, lol but eventually you will become that fabolous nurse :)

No worries.
Basically schools used to offer ADN and certificate options... (just like your getting a certificate for your LVN program) you just get your RN without a degree.
Most school out here don't do that any more and alot of school are phasing them out but Salt Lake Community College offer certificate nursing, you just need their basic requirments like A&P, etc.. but you don't need all the extras to graduate with an Adn. Did that make sence?
Ohhh I see. So its similiar to the RN 30 unit option right? Yes, makes sense :)

There are also a few diplomas left. A diploma program is usually 3 years to an ADN 2 years. Diploma programs are often hospital based schools with extensive clinical & hands-on training. ADN is community college.
Interesting. Thanks for clarifying. I never heard of a program like that before.
Diploma programs were the standard of nursing education years ago. You still needed A&P, micro and other corequisite courses (taken during the program most often rather than prior) but as the programs were hospital based there were no issues securing clinical placements at the affiliated facility. The programs were 3 years inclusive and upon graduation you are eligible to sit the nclex-RN. This is one reason why the "completion" programs are RN-BSN not ASN to BSN.
Based upon amount of clinical hours overall , in my area, diploma nursing programs have the most hands on clinical hours, next practical nursing programs, then associates, BSN and least (but all within state board of nursing minimum clinical hour mandate) are entry level masters nursing programs. Practical and diploma programs traditionally were more hands on.
Wow, thank you @Justbeachynurse
I suppose @jen_loves_nursing introduced me to something new :)

In salt lake the diploma program is the same two years as the adn. You have some students who are adn and some who are won't be graduating with adn.
