Hello, all!
I am in need of some good advice regarding my situation. In 2015 I finished my Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts in hopes of becoming a teacher one day. However, that decision has changed and I'm seriously considering nursing, eventually becoming a teacher in that field in the future. Anyway, I was not expecting to choose nursing as my future career, so I did not do any of the big science prerequisites (Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology) which I know are difficult to get seats in without being at the top of the registration list.
(Side note: I did finish Chemistry so I can do Micro.)
Sadly, I've reached the point to where I've gone over 100 credits at my school and can no longer have priority registration (I'm able to register 2 weeks after). Is there a way I can still get into these classes even while registering so late?
Any feedback would be great! Thank you.

Well, you should still try to register. You can also show up the first day of class and see if the professor will hold a lottery to let in a couple of people. I usually got into at least one class this way.
I am in California and went through the same thing. I applied to all the community colleges I could.
Since I didn't need very many classes I also looked into Extension courses. Most 4 year universities have an extension program which offer science prereqs. It is a little more $, but worth it to get it over with. I used UCLA.
You can also look into online courses offered by some colleges. Make sure to check if your nursing school will take online science prereqs and which ones.
You can also check with for-profit schools - again, you are only going to take a few classes.
Also, make sure your Chemistry will be within 5 years of applying to nursing school.
Good luck.
Thank you! I will take your advice into consideration. I am also in California and currently going to a community college. I didn't know you can take the science courses online from other colleges, so thanks for letting me know!

Which community college are you attending/willing to attend to get your science prereqs done?
California is tough - the classes are so impacted! When I started my prereqs, I was living in LA, so UCLA was my primary source. However, I also took prereqs from LACC, West LA College, Pierce, and LA Valley College.
All the UCs and State colleges have Extension programs, so check into the ones near you. Some are online classes, too. (I took Nutrition online).
I ended up moving to North San Diego County and finished up my prereqs at Mira Costa and UCSD.
National University is a decent for-profit school and while I didn't take any prereqs there, such a school could be an option for one or two classes.
Good luck!
Hello! I'm willing to get them done at my current college (Porterville College) or anywhere nearby.
Yes! They are SO impacted! And that's why I'm worried I'll never be able to finish my prerequisites... My goodness, you went to a lot of places! I live in a small town in central California and the nearest CSUs are Fresno (north) and Bakersfield (south). They are about an hour or so from where I live. I'll try looking into national university. Hopefully I can take some prereqs online!
Thank you for sharing!
