Los Medanos for Fall 2011?

Published

Hello all, is anybody applying to Los Medanos CC for fall 2011. I just sent in my application with my fingers crossed:up:

Hi everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your 4th of July holiday weekend. I was wondering if you all live near Pittsburg. I live in Fremont and I think the commute is too far to drive everyday. Is anyone else planning on relocating closer to campus? I have two kids, and I would like to know where is a good elementary school I should enroll them in, if I decide to relocate to Pittsburg.

In the nursing packet it mentions purchasing scrubs on campus on July 21st, is anyone planning on attending that day? Just in case I can't make it, does anyone know what kind of scrubs we will be needing? I'm assumming all white (top and bottom) but I am not sure.

I live in San Ramon and the commute is about 35-45 minutes without traffic. (we go against the commute on 680 and highway 4)

We have great schools and its a great community. My kids and grandkids all have gone or go to San Ramon schools from elementary through high school. It's about half way between Fremont and the campus.... Fremont is quite a distance!

I read in a thread from the class that started in 2010 that the scrubs were maroon pants and white tops. They have them for sale at the meet and greet on the 23rd with a discount that day. I assume they must have some type of patch on the tops.

I live in El Cerrito and the drive for me is about 30 minutes due to me going against traffic. I went to do my drug screening today. Glad to get that out of the way. I ran into an old classmate that I had anatomy with in 2007. She was finally accepted into Contra Costa's nursing program and was doing her drug screening as well. Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday! I didn't do much. I am trying to spend as much time with my family as possible because I know once school starts, I am going to be super busy:uhoh3:

I will be commuting from Clayton, which is about a 20 minute commute, no freeway. I am not too familiar with the Pittsburg schools because I went to school in Concord. I also don't have kids, so it is not something I have had to consider.

When I got my packet, they had written about buying scrubs at the meet and greet, but it was crossed out! So, I took that as meaning that that was no longer true! Yet another discrepancy between our packets, it seems.

I was planning to call the store either tomorrow or Thursday regarding scrubs because I don't want to drive to LMC July 21st, as I have work. In the packet, it stated it could be purchased in the store, so that is what I was planning. I'll let you all know how that goes. :D

I think because they sent mine so early, there is alot of discrepancies! A little disappointing! I was planning on buying mine then. Anyone know what scrub store ( if any) that might have them other than LMC bookstore? I know they must have the LMC patch on them. I am going to see if the one second year student who occasionally posts here might know.

I am jealous of your lack of commute! :yeah:

I definitely would consider asking the nursing department for a new packet, especially since my packet names the place that is supplying the scrubs. The place that is supplying our scrubs is:

Scrubs, etc.

3694 Delta Fair Blvd

Antioch CA 94509

There is also a Scrubs, etc in Walnut Creek (which would be closer to you in San Ramon!), and I bet they can order for it for you. I spoke with a rep today because I don't wish to drive down to Pittsburg on July 21st, the day of the discount/fitting, since I have to work in Sacramento that day, and the 10% discount won't be worth the drive. She said that they do a fitting in store, and then, order it for you, and that is how it'll work on July 21st also.

There is no info regarding the school patch in my packet, and I was also wondering how that gets ordered (at least, I am assuming there is a patch), so I hope that a current student chimes in!

For convenience, here is the web address for the scrub place: http://www.ineedscrubs.com/

Thank you for the updated info. I am going to call the nursing dept secretary in the morning. I may drive down to get a new packet. Im not too happy! Sounds like they made lots of changes. She sent a lot of the info in February (immunization, CPR, physical forms) and the rest of the packet in May. Obviously it is missing updated info. Did she. send you what looks like a photocopy of all the book covers for the books we need, and your appt for your mask fitting? Other than this stuff, mine had the info for the 3 modules, the meet and greet flyer and that was it.

THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE UPDATED INFO!

I really appreciate all your help. Thanks so much.

I ordered the kit, I sure hope they did not change that too...it has not shipped yet

Yes, everything you mentioned above is also in our packets - especially regarding the mask fitting in August - we definitely don't want to miss that! I did receive sheet with the book pics, and I doubt that is different, as past threads show the same books used.

I just spoke with Scrubs, Etc., and she confirmed 12-2 on July 21st. She stated because the meet and greet is at 4:00pm and outside, the owner did not feel it was a good idea to bring the scrubs there. So, the change. She stated the make is Dickies, Maroon pants, white top and the RN's have a white jacket (if you want one). The lvn's are all marroon. She also stated the patches are 5.00 each and you must have a patch on all tops. She did not give a price on the scrubs themselves. Their usually pretty cheap anyway, so they cannot be that bad. I asked if I could go to the Walnut Creek shop and she stated she was not sure if they had the specific one's the LMC ordered. So, guess a trip to Antioch is in order.

Oh well....

I actually went to order my scrubs today, since I can't make the July 21st date. I am really happy we dont have to wear white pants!..i would describe them more as a red wine color rather than a maroon...lol....the pants were $17 and the top $16 (or maybe the other way around?)..and sure enough, the patches were there, too, like you said....the uniform is more simple than expected - apparently the old Dove uniforms with the vests were around $200 :o the top is just a simple, white v-neck scrub set

if anybody is thinking of stopping by the store and needs to try on medium, just fyi that they currently dont have that size in womens yet because it hasn't been delivered, so waiting a little bit would be preferential. luckily for me, their smalls run a bit large!

36 days until school starts! isn't that crazy? it seems longer than that.....

Thanks for all the info on the scrubs!!
