Hey, is there anyone who applied for Fall 2017 admission to LA County? Have you guys heard any news? has anyone called you? What are your thoughts?
Is there a certain kind of stethoscope that's better than others? Ive heard Littman is supposed to be a good brand but I'm unsure as to what style. I know manual BP cuffs come in different sizes. Does the hospital not have them available?
Any stethoscope is fine littman is very good but could be pricey ... I have the cardiology 4 and I love it but it is expansive thank God my bf gifted it to me ... but there are many to choose from like the lightweight is about 40 and MDF stethoscope are nice too and alot more affordable... u are better off buying them online because they will be so much more expensive in scrub stores.... as for the BP cuff the regular size is good ... they actually sale online sets of BP cuff and stethoscope just make sure u are able to hear from the stethoscope. The hospital does have BP machines but for the first weeks u will be practicing how to manually take a bp incase u do not have a machine available and it is also a good skill to have incase u do not have a machine

As for the style it depends on what kind of nursing u want to go in to ... I want to do pediatrics and the best thethescope for the job is the cardiology 4 but my friend just went into tele and she has need a nurse for over 10 years and she is still using her lightweight from nursing school ... so it really depends on u ... and there are lots of forms with info to help u decide
I didn't even get a letter of rejections from county nor a waitlist one. She told me I still have a 50/50 chance rn and it's on the positive side, but I don't know if she just said that just cause or if it's true
MP427 - Do not give up on your dreams! The nursing industry needs determined people like you! Also, have you heard of West Coast University? That was going to be my last option so I wanted to share it with you. It's kind of expensive, but you get your BSN right away. Let me know if you have any questions.
U should be !!! It's an exciting time !!! Just make sure u enjoy ur time and have fun before school because once it starts u won't have time to have as much fun
HAHA. You are funny, I literally don't have a life as it is. I'm currently finishing up my AA at a local community college and working.

Yeah it's just frustrating because I'm not in school while waiting.. I finished everything already. So I guess it's good that I have free time but also sucks because I actually want to be in school but NURSING school.
And yes I have heard of WCU, I love about 5 min from the north Hollywood location! It's my last desperate option if I don't get into a cheaper program by the time I'm 25 I'm currently 22
Congrats you guys on making it into one of the best programs . You guys will not regret your decision. Just to give you a boost and make you even more excited, last semester an instructor lecturing told us that our school ranked top 20 of nursing programs nation wide . How cool is that. Feel proud. Yaaay. So second semester is now preparing to help
You guys. I include myself . And they are making an advise letter of things you guys may expect during your first semester so I guess family day or the first day of school they will give you the advise letter they are preparing . And for those who are waitlisted. Last semester our peeps that were waitlisted made it in. All of them , so if enough people have declined their spots your chances look really good. Remember THIS IS NOT A COMPETETION . We are all here to learn. You will soon meet your best friends for life and family . Help each other and for those that didn't make it this time. Keep applying. You will get in, don't be discouraged

Thank you for your encouraging words! I'm so excited but I'm also scared! I wish everyone here good luck. I finished all of my prerequisites last year and I also graduated last year. I even took classes this semester for the health administration program. I had applied to that as well because I wasn't getting in anywhere! So it was my back up. The way I look at it now is I enjoyed the time with my kids and family. I'll enjoy my summer before school begins. You're absolutely right!! It's not a competition!! We're all in this together and who gets the highest grade won't matter in the end. I've also heard form my friends that you will meet some of your best friends in nursing school! I look forward to meeting everyone tomorrow!!
I was in the same boat as you! I took a medical terminology class in the fall and some accounting classes needed for the health administration program I had applied to as a back up. Try to keep yourself busy and don't give up on your dream!! You're still young!!!Yeah it's just frustrating because I'm not in school while waiting.. I finished everything already. Which one would you recommend for the program?

I went with the Littman classic III in burgundy from Amazon. I have an older one from my EMT days that worked very well but have since been retired. I'd imagine a standard sized bp cuff would be sufficient to start with.
I also purchased a Whitcoat nursing edition clipboard from Amazon. Simple and sleek design that folds nicely.
