Looking for terminology website/help

I'm trying to learn names of bacterium and spirochets. I find it helps me to know what each word means. For example: Treponema pallidum. I looked it up and found that Trepo means "to turn" and nema means "to thread". So this helps me visualize Treponema as a 'twisted thread'.

ok so - I can find the meanings of only a few words that I need to know the definitions of in different places on the internet. But there are several I cannot find just what the word means. Like Neisseria gonorrhea. I just want to know what Neisseria means, but when I type it into the search it pulls up Neisseria gonorrhea. Not what i want. I just want to know what exactly Neisseria means.

Does anyone know of a website that breaks it down like this?? Or any other way I can find this info??? THANKS!

i have no idea if this is what your looking for, but maybe some of the information on that website will be able to help you.

this source explains that Neisseria is named after the dermatologist, Neisser:

this information should be in a medical dictionary, i would think. it may also be found in the internet links on some of the instructor websites on the microbiology links posted on this sticky:
