I am looking for grads from IIT nursing program. I called ITT Canton and I am on the waitlist for March 2013. I am aware that they don't have accreditation and I am also aware of the cost. I am a mother of three and for financial reasons I cannot wait pass 2013 to be accepted into a program. I am currently taking pre-regs at Macomb Community College to apply there in Feb 2013, but I am using ITT as back up. I wanted to hear from graduates of ITT Nursing program to find out their experience with the school, NCLEX, and their job search. Please let me know the good and bad.
Thanks

As a former employee of ITT Tech, I urge you to RUN away from this so called school. Their credits do not transfer so if you want to continue or if you drop from ITT, you will have to start all over from square 1 at a REAL school. ITT has been investigated for fraud and currently has many lawsuits against them including pending suits for fraud from several state's Attorneys General. The education is substandard and most employers do not recognize the degree. As for testing, the DOE recently did an investigation into how many students actually pass State Board exams and ITT was far below any other school.

We are from itt and thought we finished, but they are holding our diplomas hostage untill we pass a hesi! We are honor students but cant pass their hesi exit exam. This was not disclosed when we paid 55,000.00 for school! Good luck!
We are from itt and thought we had finished and thought we were graduating with honors! They are holding our diploma hostage because we cant pass their exit hesi! We knew nothing of this when we started school and paid our monies. They allowed the class in front of us to take it unlimited times and now we can have 5 times, after that we go back to school or lose our 55000.00.
DONT GO! I just graduated from the nursing program but they wont give my diploma because i didnt pass the hesi! $54000.00, no diploma! Run AWAY!

What area do you guys live in?? I just wanted to know so I can find out if it's the ITT Tech I want to go to. I'm from California and was thinking of MAYBE considering going to the Rancho Cordova campus which I saw was approved by the California Board of Registered Nurses.

All nursing programs are approved by their state's BON, or they wouldn't be operating. However, the proprietary (private-for-profit) tech/voc schools like ITT Tech are often not NLNAC approved (national nursing accreditation), and usually not accredited by the regional academic accreditation organizations that acredit "regular" colleges and universities (general academic accreditation, not nursing-specific). This means that the courses you take at a proprietary school usually can't be transferred into a "regular" college or university later on, if/when you want to further your education, and you basically have to start over "from scratch."
While many people start out in nursing thinking that all they'll ever want to do is basic bedside nursing and, once they finish nursing school, they'll never want to go back to school, many, many nurses find that, once they're licensed and practicing and start to see the wide range of additional career possibilities available to them with a BSN or higher degree, they start to feel differently (just look around this site at all the threads about individuals returning, or planning to return, to school). IMO, there's no justification at all, in this day and age, for paying money for academic credits that you can't transfer later to another school (esp. not for paying a lot more $$$ than necessary for credits you can't transfer!)
Also, most programs for furthering your nursing education and career (BSN completion programs and graduate programs in nursing) require that you be a graduate of an NLNAC or CCNE (the "other" national nursing accreditation organization, but they only accredit BSN and graduate programs, so that's not an issue with ADN programs) accredited program, and there is a growing trend among healthcare employers (including some of the most desirable employers in healthcare, inc. the VA, US military, and many large academic medical centers) to only employ nurses who are graduates of NLNAC or CCNE accredited programs. Choosing to attend an unaccredited nursing program now can close a lot of doors for you, permanently, for many years to come in your nursing career. IMO, it's a really bad idea, totally apart from the generally poor reputation the ITT programs have.

I just passed my hesi a2 and was accepted into ITT. Should I just apply elsewhere? I really feel like im out of options as far as nursing school goes. I need a degree quick!
Do you mind me asking what you scored on the HESI A2? I just scored a 90, and I'm hoping on getting accepted for fall 2012.
i scored a 85 and just got the call today! i was accepted :-) are you going to the canton campus?
Yes, I am going to the Canton Campus. At first I was skeptical about their program, but after researching I'm sure, everything will work out.
