I'm just about to start work at a long-term pediatric skilled nursing facility where the children are all profoundly neurologically impaired, bed/chair bound, non-verbal and most with trachs and several on vents. Apart from having spent this summer at a diabetes camp, this will be my first job as an RN (Yeaa!)
I was wondering if there is a particular forum here at AN that would be good to follow. I see there is one for neurology nurses, but that seems to be mostly short-term type of care. Same thing with the pulmonary nurse forum (although I already found some helpful threads regarding vents there). It's certainly not straight pedi nursing, so does anyone have a recommendation?
Also, are there any books/sites that may be of particular help to me for this type of nursing?
Thanks in advance. :)

Check Amazon for books - or the AN bookstore (upper right hand corner).
Peds LTC is a specialty within a specialty. I'd go with pediatrics, and rehab...maybe even touch on LTC since it is. I was through a facility like that in school, worked with head injury rehab patients of all ages, and took care of Pedi-LTC patients on peds when they came in for acute problems. Be ready to deal with MRSA and various "bugs" (like the 6-legged ones- not only the microscopic germy sorts...even the best facilities have issues.
The kids who came in from the one around here were SO well taken care of. The staff would visit, sometimes when the family didn't or couldn't.
Good luck, and congrats :)

IMO subscribe to all the forums that your specialty touches on in one way or another. That way you have access to a broad range of information.
Thank you both--I'll definitely be following your advice.

we have ltc forum but i think it is usually geriatric nurses who post there.
here's the link: https://allnurses.com/geriatric-nurses-ltc/
also, you can usually post anything in the general nursing discussion area and the an mods will move it to appropriate forum when needed. here is the link: https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/
