hi , im just looking for some guidance, a little about me real quick , im 33 and moved to nc. from ca. in feb 08 before we moved i worked as an emt in a 911 system for 6 years, i used to want to get my paramedic but now have decided i would rather go to school for longer to become an rn ,i have myself enrolled in the cna 1 and hope to just go right into the cna 2 when im finished with that , so what i would like to know is how long do the prereqs take for the nursing programs in nc ? and once i am finished how long are the waiting list for the rn program ? oh and does having your cna 1and2 help to get in any faster? oh sorry and 1 more my big fear is the math how bad or hard is the required math classes ( im a quick learner except with math but i know i need it . :):Dthank you all you lucky folks who are done with your nursing for any info :redbeathe

I decided to go back to school at 38 for my RN. I was an EMT and CNA and had worked in the ER for 7+ years. It took me a total of 4 years to get the preregs and complete the RN program but I worked full time nights in the ER while going. I would think you could easily get the preregs out of the way in 1 year if you can devote more time to your studies than I could. My hospital experience certainly helped me get a spot in the program a little quicker and the experience definitely helps in both the classroom and the clinical areas. As for the math...it is not that difficult, I had to take a couple of math classes because it had been so long since I had any dealings with fractions, etc. that were on the placement tests.
Good luck...
