Lonestar Spring 2012 Hopefuls

Published

Anyone applying?

@Katy- So no mail at all? or nothing from lonestar?

I went home on my lunch break, hoping to catch the mailman, but no such luck

I really hope we hear before the weekend...

No mail from Lonestar. The rest of it was there, but I'm not sure if it was today's mail or yesterday's mail.......I'll let you know this afternoon. I really don't think we will find out before the weekend though.

Yea...I don't expect to hear anything until Tuesday

My suggestion in prepairing for your lab pratical you should study the lab book. On the first lab pratical we had in the summer session at Cy-fair we tested on lab safety guidelines, ex. Where do you dispose of a slant? Where do you dispose of a plate? We also named the parts of a microscope, and had to identify at least 5 safety violations based on a picture of someone sitting at a lab table. So my suggestion is to study the safety agreement your instructor had you sign at the beginning of the semester and know the parts of the microscope.

We also covered lab exercises 1.1-Glo-Germ - know the purpose of this exercise and the parts that were dirtiest.

2.1 Ubiquity of Microorganisms

2.2 Colony Morphology

3.1 Microscope

3.5 Simple Stains

1.3 Aseptic Methods

1.4 Streak Isolation

2.3 Slants

2.4 Growth Patterns

3.7 Gram Stain - know the procedure

3.9 Capsule Stain

3.10 Endospore Stain

3.1.3 Flagella Stain (be able to identify the type of flagella)

2.14 Disinfectants (know the definitions) ex. microbicidal - kills microorganisms, Microbistatic - inhibits growth of microorganisms, Germicides - are used on surfaces vs. antiseptic germicides can be used on the skin, know the methods of sterilization (chemical agents - alcohol, phenol, bleach, antibiotic ointment vs. physcial methods - heat, autoclaving (heat & pressure), uv radiation, filtering)

7.3 Kirby-Bauer Method

GOOD LUCK!!! It is really not that difficult unless you have text anxiety.

I am thinking that the letters are being sent out today, meaning that the post office should at least received the letters today to be sorted and then delivered to all the applicants.

Time to start checking that mail box religiously, I mean literally praying as I walk to the mail box for God to have acceptance to the program in His plan for my life's destiny.

Why do you think that letters are being sent out today? Did you call and ask? Cy-Fair or Kingwood? Details please.......this waiting is killing me!!!

HAPPY LETTERS-SHOULD-BE-IN-THE-MAIL-FRIDAY and a little funny for our frazzled nerves!

Kingwood posted on their application deadline calendar that letters would be sent out in September....well today is the last day of September so hopefully we will start seeing them arrive at our homes!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let the letters arrive today

This is just plain TORTURE

I am sure the letters will not arrive today, but that they will only hit the mail as they would have to because the website says that they are mailed out in September and many of us were told when submitting our applications that the letters would be mailed at the end of September and that we should receive them sometime during the first week of October. Well, next week is the first week of October and today is the last day of September. Surely by this time next week if you have not received your letter you can contact the Nursing Department at your first choice school to find out your status. I am betting that everyone will receive their letters by Thursday at the very latest. The majority will received them on Monday and a few more on Tuesday, and the rest will receive them on Wed.

Analyzing this situation logically, those who receive their letters first are the ones that are denied knowing that with their submitted scores they did not qualify when compaired with the multitude of qualified applicants. The next to receive their letters are the ones who are accepted to the program. This leaves the alternates last to receive their letters as these applications had to be placed into an alternate position based on not only their overall scores, but the HESI Math and A&P scores, which is more time consuming to sort out than the two previous situations of either denial or acceptance.

I would think they just mail them all at the same time? That is why they wait until the end of the month?

What I want to know is, if someone applies to cyfair, but misses the cutoff so they go to KW. Does that bump someone else that had KW as their first choice? Does that make sense? I just want to know how that works?
