lonestar nursing 2014 hopeful

Published

Hi, just wanted to start a post about my process of applying at lonestar. Hope to hear from other applicants! I have just taken my HESI and will be applying for the spring semester with a score of 11.54

I have heard that it has happened at orientation as well, so that's what I thought.

I have heard that they do it at orientation as well...Kingwood has 2 orientations and I just figured the drug test was going to happen this week since payment had to be made yesterday....If the drug test was at a later time they probably would of given us a lil bit longer to pay.....ya know

well I hope they don't want to know what all I have taken in the last 2 weeks, especially otc drugs because I was sick and desperate and took just about everything.....lol....I don't even know what all I took to be exact.

OTC and Rx drugs are irrelevant in regards to a urinalysis. Furthermore, it is illegal for the tester to be notified that you are taking them, in other words, a declaration does NOT help you. (This falls under HIPAA)

Speaking of HIPPA....When I worked in a urgent care facility I would have numerous patients ask me to write them a doctors excuse and to list the prescriptions they were given because their employer asked them too....I would tell the patients you know it is none of their business what prescriptions you were give or what you were treated for....I would get this all the time...It is crazy how employers are being and wanting to invade people medical rights.....

sorry misspelled some words on that last post and won't let me edit my post

Echo did you just finish one year in the LVN program or what?? Did you not want to do the transition route?? If you do not mind me asking

Long story short: I applied for the BSN at A&M, but was denied; thus missed the last ADN application deadline (This is where I learned to not put all your eggs in one basket) So I knew the ADN application dates for Spring '14 were coming up and I didn't want to spend Fall '13 sitting on my ass; so I applied to and was accepted into the LVN program while waiting for the ADN program to start accepting applications again.

I was confident I was getting into the ADN program and knew the LVN courses do not transfer, but the skills obtained in clinicals and labs will stay with me and make me a better ADN student when I start in January. On the other hand, if for some reason they had passed on me for the ADN program, I'd have stayed and figured out the next step later. I have the option to withdraw from the LVN program now, but the classes are already paid for (Financial Aid) and I am learning a lot regardless that will carry over with me.

What many people forget is that regardless if you are a CNA/LVN/ADN/BSN/MSN; patient care is founded on basic care and builds from there. Regardless of your degree, you will have to bathe a patient, aid in feeding, wipe a few butts, etc. As long as you are an advocate for the patient and you help them retain some dignity; then you'll do well.

Sounds like you made a right decision....Yea I finished my pre-req's last spring and just kept taking other courses that would help assist me in this field like medical terminology, nutrition and etc....My friends were like why are you still taking classes? The answer is I like going to school and keeping myself busy...I do not work right now so it makes me feel like at least I am doing something productive.

I have to agree with u jenn because when I didn't go to school for one whole year I felt like I had wasted a year of my life. I've been going to school ever since I graduated from high school and haven't stopped.

I see all these Kingwood posts where are all the Cy-fair people I feel left out lol.

I'm curious about which classes and clinicals each of you prefer that are accepted to Kingwood. Days or nights for classes? Friday or Saturday clinicals?
