Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.
I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?
Good Luck, Kyla. I know you will do well and pass it with no problems!
I hate to hear about nursing homes. My last memory of one was when I was in my church's youth group and we sang to them for Christmas Carols. It broke my heart, scared me and I don't think I made a peep when everyone else was singing. I couldn't comprehend what was going on in the facility. I won't be able to work at one, it makes me too sad. I could be one of those people to play card games and visit but not watching some of them being mistreated. So awful.
Anyway-good luck with your testing and let us all know how you did! I'll be rooting for you.
What are people doing now, as in the period after completing the ADN prerequisites but before starting nursing school? I'm taking the prerequisites for BSN programs. I just completed philosophy (for UT Houston) and am taking nutrition (for several different schools) right now.
I'm taking Pharm and Lifespan (they didn't transfer my class from my undergrad degree )
I do need to take Texas Govt if I ever decide to do the RN-BSN. We didn't have to take that in FL! What is the class number for that at Arlington? I took a regular govt, but not TX.
I know about anxiety! I am crossing my fingers as I type this (that is tricky by the way), but the assistant at KW told me the the lowest score last year was 11.4 (just got this confirmed by her again). And they are accepting 60 students in the Spring.....soooo, I really think we are ok. Just trying to be positive while feeling anxious, ha!
I'm taking Micro this semester at North Harris. Anyone else taking Micro this semester as well?
Me!! The continuing Education one? I called today to find out what book we need....they aren't for sure who is teaching yet but they THINK it will be Talaro's 7th edition Foundations in Microbiology. Have you found out anything differently? Wanted to rent online and need to order today so it will be here in time.
:)
For those of you wondering what a good score is, you shouldn't rely on our posts. You should base things on official statements from Lone Star. If you look here, you'll be able to read this:
The LSC-North Harris Basic Track cut off for 2010 was ~11.27.
Keep in mind that scores could be higher for other programs such as evening programs, ODAW, and Quest. In an information session at Kingwood, it was said that Quest had an 11.6 cut off score - but don't take my word for it, find out from Lone Star yourself.
Taking the HESI for the first time on Tuesday at CyFair. I am nervous about it, the reading comprehension always gets me. I have been studying the Math section pretty darn hard, as I am not good with percentages, but I am learning.
Any tips on the test ?
I will be taking Medical Micro at Fairbanks with Susie Hsieh. I hear she is a great instructor.
I have 8 of the 12 points needed for admission - just need the HESI points and I am done and hopefully with a high enough grade to get in.
Please let me know if there are any suggestions or pointers for the HESI.
Thanks all.

That's all fine and dandy except not all campus' are so forthcoming with that information. Just because the cut off for NH is 11.27 does not mean it was the same for all of the others. I asked at the last Cy-Fair info session and they would not give an exact number therefore, speculation is all we have.
I don't think anyone is relying solely on these posts however, it is a good indication of where we might stand especially if 10+ people have better scores than we do and they are only admitting 30 (maybe 40?) students.
This thread is for us to chat and vent and talk about what we are all going through. Of course we are going to confirm information with the college (if that is even possible sometimes).
I'm taking Micro at Cy-Fair this semester. I had my first class tonight and I think I am going to enjoy it. :)
Seems like everyone in my class is going into nursing! Geez! Out of 31 students in the class, one was going for dental assisting, another was wavering between nursing and rad tech, and another was already a nurse working on getting her CRNA. All the rest were working on nursing!

** Who are you taking for Med Micro.
At the very beginning of this thread someone got in with my exact same score I have now. Wednesday is the last day to take the hesi. I dunno if I should take the test to try and improve my odds but risk somehow getting a lower score. Someone mentioned taking the test at prometric and only using the score if its higher but I've had nothing but headaches trying to arrange a hesi test with those people. The decision is truly my own but I'm still open to the advice. Should I risk retaking the hesi if I already have a 11.4784

Same with me. This place is the only place I know of where I can vent and ramble and know that I am talking to others who have the same feelings. Plus, I'm pretty sure my husband is getting tired of it.
My CNA class is actually over. We got three dates for our state exam but I don't know which date I will have yet. I should hear something tomorrow. I actually enjoyed the class but I am pretty sure that I do not want to end up in a nursing home. It's really sad how some of the residents are treated. I'm hoping I can somehow get in to a hospital once I get my certification. My instructor said being a nursing student should really help. (fingers crossed!)
