Lone Star Spring 2011

Published

Okay, for all of us that did not get into the Lone Star Fall 2010 program and are trying again for the Spring...here we go again.

I'm retaking AP2 this summer (I have a B so now I want an A) to increase my points. After that I just don't know what else to do because I have all co-reqs completed, CPR done and Immunizations done. What are your plans to increase your chances of getting in for the Spring?

Okay - just completed the application online! I printed out the application and score sheet. And, saw everyone's post about not needing the Hep shot verification at CyFair, but what is the Evaluation that I need to submit a hard copy of? I didn't see it as part of the application info.

Go to My Records, student list, under Academic Planning click on Program Evaluation. When you get the next window, click on the ADN Nursing Block option and enter. Print out what it generates. It was required in past application periods... but for some reason they left it out of the list this time around.

Hi, I'm applying for spring as well, this is my 3rd attempt. I retook the engl. 1301 and pscy 2301 over the summer to raise my score. for the fall I had 11.28 and the cutoff was 11.3 (****** me right off) now I have 11.826 and am hoping to get into Cy Fair.

You'll get in for sure this time! :yeah:

Hi everyone! ok..so I know this is a stupid question..but i am a bit confused about the hep b shot. When I was younger, I had to get this series for school, so I am wondering if this is something I need to get again? or do I just need to bring in proof? It seems like most people on here are having to go and get it.

I also have a question about CPR certification. Does this need to be completed before the application deadline? or can you do it after you receive your acceptance letter but before clinicals start?

I really appreciate any help i can get!

It is my understanding that if you have had it and have proof (your childhood immunization record) then you won't have to get it again. They may require titers but I am not 100% sure about that. There is a form online on the nursing department page you can print out and have your Dr sign off on for all your immunizations. I just brought my records into my Dr and he listed them all out on the form for me and signed it. Most of us are getting them now because they were not required when we were younger or we no longer have our records.

For the CPR certification, no, you do not need it to apply. From previous posts it seems like once you are accepted, they will give you instructions about your immunization records and CPR certification. (ie: when you need to bring in the documentation)

I hope that helps. :)

I actually ran into someone today who was in CyFair's program. She said that it's really not as hard as some people make it out to be. As long as we do our work and don't let ourselves get behind that we will be fine......made me feel better so I thought I would share.:redpinkhe

Ohhh thank God, this does calm my nerves some. However; I can't help myself thinking about the nclex. Up to five hundred questions- with each question progressively getting more and more complicated. Check this web site out

http://www.texas-nursing-schools.com/NCLEX.php ,it provides some vital info on what's to come! I'm already devising a plan - renting a hotel room for about 2 to 3 days of total solitude. I know it sounds crazy, but I have 3 boys who follow me into my closet when im trying to study. From what I gather we only get 3 chances to pass this one. :[anb]:

Thanks for that link fabjulev. Very interesting.:) I must admit, that I too am planning ahead for the NCLEX. It makes me soooooo nervous just thinking about it.

Actually you can take the nclex every 45 days for up to 4 years...

FAQ's for Students

How many times can I take the NCLEX Exam?

The exam can be taken every 45 days for a four year period of time. This is governed by Rule 217.2 which states in part:

  • © An applicant for initial licensure by examination shall pass the NCLEX-PN or NCLEX-RN within four years of completion of requirements for graduation.
  • (d) An applicant who has not passed the NCLEX-PN or NCLEX-RN within four years from the date of completion of requirements for graduation must complete a board approved nursing education program in order to take or retake the examination.

I don't know about you but this makes me feel so much better.

I think people keep mixing up the nclex with the exit hesi. You only have 3 tries with the exit hesi.

Hello everyone,

I am applying to kingwood's spring 2011 nursing program. I plan on taking the hesi this weekend and turning in my application on monday. I know I am really late . Right now, my score is an 8 and the HESI test would definitely seal my fate. Needless to say, I am extremely nervous about it. I have followed this thread and read previous posts concerning the test so I have an idea of what to expect. Besides the application, what else is needed? For example, do I need a copy of my transcript?

Thank you for your help! :redpinkhe

Are you a Lonestar college student? If so you are in the system when you go to apply your HESI score needs to be posted in my records and your major needs to be declared nursing AADN you do that thru my records. When you apply online it will tell you what to bring to turn in at Kingwood (it is print outs from the online application), but you do need proof of the HEPB vaccination or that you have received the first shot in the series. I am not sure if that is true for all campuses but for Kingwood they want it. And either way the series takes 6 mo to complete (unless you do a fast track which is still 3 mo) this has to be complete before you begin I beleive clinicals. They are very picky about it because it is state law. Otherwise that is it.
