So who's with me? What are your points and where did you apply- Kingwood or Cyfair?
Good luck future nurses
During Pharm last night, I was picking the brain of our instructor. She teaches only second year nurses. Anyway, I asked if we put just one option down on our schedule (t/t/sat) if we're sure to get that since that is the only option I have. She said yes because they advertise it as a weekend program. The clinical locations like it too cause most staff likes not having to work on saturday or something like that. Also ask if we put down that we want saturdays if occassionally we can swap with a weekday person if something comes up. She said pretty much no because for example, the thursday clinical group may be at a different location than the saturday crew. ..different specialty. It's pretty much written in stone she said and you only get to miss 14 hours of clinicals which translates into 1 1/2 days out for the whole 2 years. I'm sure everyone will have a lot of questions at the orientation. Also, I saw a male nurse there and the uniform didn't actually look bad at all.
Only 1 1/2 days.. wow, that's something I wonder what happens if you miss more, do you get kicked out the program? I mean, I don't plan on missing any God willing, but you never know, life happens and sometimes things can't be helped.
Thanks for picking her brain Rj. Every little bit of info helps. Are you taking Weaver? My co-worker said that she is awesome and she is who is teaching the on campus Pharm class for next semester.. I'm opting to take it online though, I'm guessing Ms. Seaback may be teaching it because she used to teach Pharm online before she became Director.
My shoes came in and they are so comfy, I hope they stay that way. They were on sale at Shoebuy.com for only $38! Excellent buy!
Yes, I'm taking Pharm with Weaver.
What kind of shoes did you get. I read here that New balance was good and ordered them on line but apparently i must have clown feet or something cause they rub. I ordered the next wider shoe (1/8 inch wider on each side) still rubs. I'm hoping it's just that brand cause i bought some new balance locally and the same thing happened. I guess I'll have to try a different brand. As far a a day an half off, i would guess that they talk tough but stuff happens. Who knows. We'll find out soon enough.
I got the Cherokee Rockers Harmony I liked that they were slip on, wipeable, and stays white for a while without shoe polish, supposedly :chuckle Here's a pic:
They fit the all white shoe requirement and they come in wide sizes which I needed... I used to wear Cherokee Clogs when I worked at Hermann and they gave me no issues and that was after working a 12hour shift so I thought I would go back to the brand that I know. They're not all that fashionable but trust me, after you have been on your feet all day, comfort goes out the window :chuckle
I got my Tdap and TB done today and have CPR in the morning. I may or may not have to do the physical again, I just had one in July but I won't find out until Monday if I have to do it again. I thought the Tdap was going to hurt but it was ouchless I have to learn how to give shots like that :chuckle
Hello everyone!! I see you all are busy getting everything together :) I just wanted to clarify that the 1 1/2 days are per semester not for the entire program, thankfully Also, whatever clinical day you chose, you're pretty much stuck with, they do however make exceptions but only for extenuating circumstances. They are really great!!
For those of you who have low incomes (I know, everyone, right!!), total family income that is, there is financial assistance through the Worksource (workforce??) called the WIA grant. This grant pays for your classes, books, license, any shots you may need, uniforms, supplies, etc. Check with your local agency.

Well, I did a background check through Certified, just in case the Kingwood thing comes through. Cy-Fair (in keeping with the "we're just going to do things differently" theme) is using someone else and their secretary told me that they mailed that information out yesterday.
Orientation is December 4th for Cy-Fair. No date or time information was included in their letter of acceptance - just said more info. will be mailed later (just like the background check thing. No class/clinical schedule information was included with the acceptance package either. It's funny to have more info. on the program I'm an alternate for than the one that I got accepted to! I haven't heard what alternate spot I am in at Kingwood.
