hi everyone, could someone tell me if it is required for us to take the local board exams here prior to taking the NCLEX? im one of the thousands of examinees this june nursing board exam who did not make it. right now, im contemplating of preparing for the NCLEX in vermont and would like to be enlightened on this issue. i know it is better if im a registered nurse here but would it affect my application in vermont if im not an RN here? im already 32 y/o and is very eager to work as a nurse...any advise will help, thanks

local license is not required... visit the website of the BON that you wish to apply.. http://www.ncsbn.org (click Boards of Nursing) you can see the requirements there...

A local license is not required. However, because you took the exam and did not pass it, that opens you to another set of issues. It will be up to a state to decide if they want you to be able to apply for a license without having passed your local boards, since you did take them. You cannot leave it off of the application, to do so would be considered falsifying information.

And as I keep saying, if you are going to work in the US, and not planning to work in the Philippines at all, do not bother with the local exam. It can only cause more issue for you. It is only needed if you wish to work in one of a handful of states that still require the CGFNS exam.

And all questions having to deal with working in the US, go to the International forum.
