Licensure Endorsement help ......

I've called both my state board of nursing (Ohio) and they didn't really know too much, they told me that I needed to call the board of nursing to where I was moving to and ask them all my questions. I also ended up going there in person and they told me the same thing. I did call the Virginia board of nursing but they didn't seem to know a lot and I think they got to the point where they where just answering what they thought would be the answer. I had called twice to the Virginia board of nursing and received 3 different answers on the same question about the endorsement paper... confusing I know!

My situation is I am moving from Ohio where I do have my RN licensure but have not practiced nursing, to Virginia where I will be starting a job in April. The Endorsement paper asks:

"Please declare your state(s) of current practice:" (if it will help u understand the form questions it can be found here under RN section: http://www.dhp.virginia.gov/nursing/nursing_forms.htm )

I was told to put Ohio even though I have never worked in Ohio as an RN but have my license there. Then I was told to put Ohio and VA even though I don't have a nursing license or have ever worked in Virginia....

Then I was told that N/A would be ok to put there, but I think she might have said that was ok because I asked if N/A would go there.

Also I wanted to know about CE's and once I have my endorsement for VA would I still have to do CE's for Ohio board of nursing and do I still have to renew the Ohio licensure or would I do that through VA nursing board?

And does anyone know how long it would take to get a licensure transferred over to another state?

I'm having a similar problem. I'm licensed in Massachusetts, and got a job in Vermont. You can get a 90-day temporary license on the spot if you bring your paperwork to the BON, so I'm planning to do that.

One section of the endorsement application says "I have practiced nursing for at least: () 120 days (960 hours) in the last 5 years, or () 50 days (400 hours) in the last 2 years." I haven't worked as an RN since I got my license. The endorsement FAQ says you only need work experience if your nursing program doesn't meet the BON's standards (which I can't find on the website). Vermont has 3 Associate Degree RN programs, so I should be okay.

Let me know when you find out. I am moving to VA in July (from Ohio) and am not sure about the licensure process there. As for what to put in the application, I would put Ohio as your state and attach a paper explaining the issue. They should be fine with it.

I'll be in VA in about 20 days but don't start my job until 20 days after I move there. I'll let you know how things turn out, I just hope all my paper work gets processed quick!

The paper work they processed took about 2 weeks exactly. Which means they sent my RN license to the address I am moving to and I am not there yet! (u put the address where you want all your updated VA board info sent to).

Who lives there now? If it is a relative, you're probably OK, they can keep it and hold it for you.

If the home is occupied by people you don't know, the post office may be forced to return the license to the BON. These envelopes are usually specially marked to be delivered only to addressee and to be returned if undeliverable.

That prevents your license from falling into a stranger's hands.
