Licensed by Endorsement but original state of licensure is expired

I have a question. I took my LPN boards in Virginia in 2005 (I signed residency over to VA) and became licensed in VA after my husband was transferred there with the military. I kept my license current and applied for licensure by endorsement in the state of California in 2008 as my husband was getting stationed there for his next duty assignment. CA-BON accepted me and I signed my residency over to California once we became stationed there. I have continued to keep my California license current since 2008 but in 2010 my license in Virginia expired and I didn't think much about it until recently. I suppose I thought if I was not planning on living in Virginia ever again (we retired in California) I did not need to keep my license in VA current. I did not put it as inactive either though, it ended up expiring. Should I have kept my first nursing license from VA current or inactive no matter whether I ever went back to that state again? Just curious if it invalidates anything in any way since that was the original state of licensure where I took my boards. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for any info or feedback on this.

I have been a nurse for 28 years...my original state of licensure was Florida. I have not had a Florida license in 26 years. Never renewed it, never have had a problem.

You don't need to keep your original license current. If you happen to move back to (or work in) your original state in the future, you can reapply at that time.

As long as you as you maintain a current, active license somewhere, you don't have to be licensed in your original state.
