Hi,
Has anyone heard of the 'Lewisham Hand Washing Guidelines'???
Supposed to be the most up-to-date guideline on handwashing. I can't find it anywhere.
Any help much appreciated.

thanks sharrie for this, my friend in college is doing a research project for college on hand washing and will show her your links.
Thanks Sharrie,
I more or less came up with the same results. I was expecting a set of established guidelines, plus I don't have access to some Journals.
It came from a conversation I had with a 'Saving Lives' person from the DOH who led me to believe that there was a set of guidelines which were the cutting edge of handwashing :) I will be speaking to the DOH person again and I think I will email Annette Jeanes.
Thanks again,
Try looking at things around the safer pateint initiative, this is something that my trust is involved in and I know has done quite a bit of work around handwashing and infection prevention and control
hi sharrie, i try to keep up with whats going on in the uk, whats the safer patient initiative?
doing my college course has certainly opened my eyes as to what is not available in the usa and the way that other nurses think about medicine in other countrys especially the uk and canada.

there are loads of things that are included in SPI, it's a huge project in my trust and covers initiatives from infection prevention to saftey briefings in theatres, rapid response teams.
Some trusts have been given funding to implement these areas but have to report back to the department of health how they have impacted on pateint care
thanks sharrie, the americans have a document thats called healthy people 2010, its a great document, but although it was established in 2000, i had never even heard of it, only because i am in college, are we working on it, none of my nurse colleagues know anything about it, but its an initiative to make their working practices better.
I mentioned the Lewisham Hand Washing method at work a couple of times.
The best reply was: "Bunkum and tosh, washing your hands is washing your hands....."
