Hey All ,

I wanted to start a topic to see if anyone got into Lehman College this year (2023) for the FNP program and if they are considering going. Also have you heard any pros/cons about the school? If anyone is currently enrolled now any feedback and/or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi, I am not currently enrolled, but was in the past. Not sure if you heard, but recently, Lehman lost their accreditation for their FNP program. Was a disaster. Since then I left and completed my FNP elsewhere. I did hear that they got their accreditation back eventually. When I was there, program was horrible. Could be they got better over the past year or so... Anyways, just want to make sure you knew about their prior issues before making any choices.

Good luck!

Wow Omggggg I didn't even know about them losing their accreditation. I just looked it up. I definitely don't want to go through that or have to worry about that while I'm in the program.  I guess that's why I got in so easily. I don't think anyone else is applying. What school did you end up going to? And did you like the program?

Yeah it was a pretty messed up crazy situation. It's very possible there are many people still applying, probably lots of people never heard about it or are still choosing to go. I wouldn't count out going there based on their past alone. Congrats on getting accepted! I would tell you I think they got accreditation back and it's good for like 7 years or something so odds are you'd probably be fine if starting soon. It is a CUNY so much cheaper than many other options. Personally, I was so traumatized from it all I wouldn't go if making the choice now LOL, but maybe you should look into it more.

So I ended up moving out of state when they lost accreditation and went to an online program, Purdue University Global. Personally, I liked it, but, at least when I was looking about 2 years ago, you couldn't do online programs in NY.

I appreciate you so much for your advice. I'll definitely look into it and do some more research. The price of the school os definitely tempting. If I could avoid school loans I'm all for it. I definitely understand you be traumatized I would have been too. In regards to the online school there isn't any in NY that I know off. Everything is out of state and NY has a rule that you can't do clinicals here if you do out of state program which sucks. And a lot of online programs require you to find your own clinical sites and preceptors.... It will be hard finding one in a state that I don't even know. I don't want that extra stress. Smh

Hi, I have also been accepted to the Lehman's FNP certificate program starting in the Fall. I heard about them losing their certification and was wary but the decision to go boils down to affordability and the fact they take into account my previous MSN degree (not in an NP specialty) to qualify for the FNP certificate program. I was accepted and had planned on going to Downstate's DNP program but ended up dropping out due to the cost. I do not want to take out any loans so I am choosing to go to a school that will be covered by my employer's tuition reimbursement program.

@NYCommunityRN yes I'm such in agreement with you. I'm looking to avoid any student loans/debt. I see what people go through and the struggles. Life is hard as it is. The CUNY schools really make it affordable. Yes losing their accreditation does make me Leary but since they got it back it's good for like 8 years before review again unless they will be getting like auditors more frequently due to their past I don't know. ??‍♀️. I still have it has an option I'm not completely throwing it away. If I decide to go there we should keep in touch!

Hi ! I also applied to Lehman for the sake of the cost , honestly I feel like every school is flawed and most times you end up teaching yourself material anyway so I'd rather not break the bank over it . How soon after submission did you guys get accepted ? And does anyone know if the program is hybrid or everything is in person ?

Yes you're definitely right. There isn't a perfect school. You will always find some flaws whether it's with the professors or administration LOL. I applied to all my schools really early since last year around October/November. I didn't want to rush things too close to the deadline. I found out beginning of March that I got in. And that's a good question I don't know if it's hybrid or only in person. I'm hoping it's hybrid because the school is far from me like an hour via train. ? I think I'll send an email and find out.

Have you made Lehman your final decision to attend?

Yes it's a pretty long commute for me as well but the financial burden is what compensates that LOL I'm still waiting to hear back for a decision but we shall see

Oh please let me know if you get in! I emailed the program advisor in regards to whether the program is hybrid or not. I'll keep you posted if and when I get a response. I hope you hear something soon and get in! Fingers crossed! And I hear you on that money man LOL. I haven't had any school loans so far and I'd like to keep it that way tbh.

I cannot relate LOL that's why I don't see myself jumping off the deep end for another set of debt
