Help! I just completed my CLNC 1 week ago. I have 2 jobs to do. #1 Review records and #2 Find an expert witness. How do you start to find an expert witness? Is it okay to use the data bank right away? Also, I have another question regarding nursing care plans. Is it a legal document. Meaning if someone wrote in the care plan that an intervention was done but there was no documentation in the chart. Thanks for all your help

Hello, MCYICURN

Congratulations on becoming CLNC!

Yes, the Care Plan is a legal document.

As for locating Expert Witness, you need to find out from your client if he/she wishes one locally, within the state, in close proximity, etc. Then, work from there.

At first, I ulitized word-of-mouth references from fellow LNCs. Then, started researching/searching journals. I've had to contract with agencies to find experts.

I utilize a data base that I've built up over the years. You can contact fellow LNCs on Listservs, too. If you are held to local finds, you may be hard-pressed. So, find that out first.

Once you are practicing a while, you will probably start receiving communications from physicians, other nurses, LNCs, etc., asking you to keep their CVs on file for future consideration.

Good luck.

Thank you. I really appreciate your help. Hopefully, I can do the same one day.
