How To Get Started????

My husband and I got bamboozled into signing up for the $12000 VM course. He took the course last Nov and has had NO luck getting any type of work. We tried sending out letters, we went door to door. After the first few months he became very discouraged and pretty much had to quit trying , as we were going broke while he worked at it every day. We feel like such fools for falling for her get rich quick marketing scheme! She made it sound like once you completed her course a job was pretty much guaranteed. He is a RN with 14 yrs ER/ICU experience and would be a huge asset to anyone who would ever give him a chance. Any one out there know any lawyers/ insurance companies who hire LNC's? He is willing to work for free just to get in and get his feet wet! We are at the point of desperation because throwing away over $12,000 is a huge pill to swallow!!!! Right now he's having to work extra to make up for the money we lost on the course and time he spent trying to market himself everyday. So, he doesn't have a lot of time to network. We need a lead very badly, any would be greatly appreciated.

Alas, no substitute for shoe leather and making contacts. Go to bar association meetings with a table and work samples and treats, think about marketing him as a testifying expert in ER-related cases (there are lots of them) instead of a LCN, offer to give CEUs to the local bar association (call the office and ask). Anything to get your name out there...

Yet another victim of the, "AMWAY OF LNC CERTIFICATIONS'. It is too bad that you did not get on this listserve, and ask questions about the need for $12,000, LNC program.

JMHO and my NY $0.02.

I am also researching legal nurse consulting. I have been told you do not need a certification. Living in Houston, Tx is a benefit I think because of the abundance of medical facilities and lawyers. My question is also how to get started. I have over 10 years RN experience in ICU, dialysis and ER.

You don't need certification but that's one way you demonstrate your ability and knowledge to potential clients, like any other specialty. Walking in the door and saying, "Hi! I'm a nurse!" probably won't cut it.

Houston is also overrun with LNCs and the pay there is poor, from my personal experience.

Suggest you go to the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants, American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC), and check out their very reasonable-cost online education series in prep for the certification exam-- the only one, LNCC. Look that up, too.

For an LNC course at a reasonable price i highly recommend Laurie Elston's 3 day course ,very reasonable ie under $2000, fun and full of knowledge
