Dear Lorie

I have two misdemeanors. One charge assault with a deadly weapon and second charge assault likely to cause great bodily injury. I am a LVN in California. I want to get my RN. Should I go back to school for my RN? What's the likelihood of me getting licensed as an RN? Should I wait 7 to 10 years before I go back to school?

Dear Should I Go Back to School,

Did you have these misdemeanors when you applied for your LVN? If not, does the LVN Board know about these? If they did know about these and still granted your license or took no action against your license, that would be helpful to the RN Board.

I wish I could predict the likelihood of your getting licensed as an R.N., but I can't. Now, if it's possible to get these misdemeanors expunged from your record, that would be a good first step.

Good Luck

Lorie
