Leave off a prior healthcare job I was let go from?

Hi fellow nurses,

I am a nursing student who will graduate in May of this year. Before applying to nursing school, I was thinking of heading the PA route and taking pre-health courses at my local community college. During that time, I worked for a dermatology office as an admin assistant for several months, before accepting a position as a medical assistant at an allergy practice that would train me and give me the direct patient care experience that PA schools were looking for. However, I was not performing very well as I had no prior experience. I pushed myself too fast too soon to accept a position I thought I could learn on the job, but it was not easy for me, despite how hard I tried to learn. Eventually they had to let me go and after much soul searching (it was still my dream to be a health care provider) I decided to do the right thing and go to school to learn those skills and then work in the field (something I definitely should have done before).

Nursing school has taught me so much more and allowed me to practice, practice, practice all my skills. I know now how much there is to working in the medical field and I am very glad something happened that made me undergo the journey of properly learning how to be a nurse. I also discovered that I would love to be a midwife or nurse practitioner working in the neonatal or women's health fields, something I never thought I would ever want to do when I was trying for PA school.

My question is...do I still put the allergy medical assistant experience on my resume? I worked there for about 5 months and it was the last healthcare job I had prior to enrolling in nursing school. If I do put it down resume, how do I approach it when interviewing? Will it hinder my chances of being hired as an RN?

Any advice you guys can give me is much appreciated! Thanks so much!
