Learning on the Job?

Hello,

I have shadowed an ACNP in at CTICU, and she has stated to me along with many other NPs working on the floor that most of their learning throughout all of their jobs has occurred in practice, and that schooling for ACNP does not prepare you enough.

They have informed me to go the PA route for this reason.

Can I get any thoughts from current ACNPs?

Thank you for your time.

Respectfully Yours,

Talk to a few PAs and MD/DOs.

The transition from student to practitioner is a big one regardless of education. You will see far more in your first year of practice then you ever see in school.
