just gave my two week notice at my grocery store job after accepting a position as cna. i start the job/training on 3/25/09. so excited....yet so scared. i'm not exactly a youngster, but i consider it an honor to be able to make a difference in someone's life. what can i do for the next two weeks before i start my training to better prepare myself for the classes/clinicals? any books to read? any advice? thanks so much!

Just the training manual. Do you know what you are getting into. The only reason i say this is i know a girl who quit her job and then the cna thing did not work out. If i were you i would keep the grocery store job until you have did the cna thing for a while. To make sure you like it. I am glad for my job and i love the residents i have. But the work is hard and the pay sucks. But some days the smiles are just worth it.
Thanks! Yes, I do know what I'm getting into. My daughter was a CNA for 3 years at the same facility. I haven't received a manual yet. I was just wondering if there was anything I can pick up at the library that can get me started. I'm sure I'll get all my text books and stuff when I start on 3/25.

It helps to read your book & study the material before you head into class. Its a way to get ahead & be more prepared. There's plenty of CNA books at the library if you're interested. They may have more or less info than the book you will use for class, but generally they will be around the same. A book on medical terminology might be beneficial to pick up as well. I did that before I enrolled in my CNA class. Also before I started class I took notes on the chapters & highlighted the important parts. When you start class, its a good idea to review your notes every night to further learn the material. And when it comes to the skill portion of your class, it also helps to practice them at home too, such as taking someone's pule, blood pressure, making bed, etc.. Good luck :)
Thank You! I am a member of bookmooch.com and just mooched a textbook. That should keep me busy for a while. Thanks again!!

someone on here posted a link that is really helpful to me! I am also planning to become a cna. I work in the food industry and it sucks big time! however, I don't think I will quit my job until I know for sure that I will get another one after I'm certified, and that I will like it! Anyway the website is: deptets.fvtc.edu/nursing.
thank you so much!!!! :heartbeat
