Last semester of nursing school and preggo!

Published

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I am going into my last semester of nursing school and am pregnant, expecting my baby Feb. 11th (although he/she will come whenever it wants to!) I am starting in OB in Jan. to Feb 12th, then ICU from Feb-March. Just wondering if any of you, or anyone you know finished nursing school successfully and when they were supposed to after having a baby. I know it will depend on my recovery and the baby ( this is my second, I have a 4 year old son, but it seems to have been so long I dont even remember my recovery) Any words of encouragement, or success stories are greatly appreciated, now that I am on break for 3 weeks, my anxiety about all of this is coming forward, now that I actually have the time to think about it!

Specializes in everywhere.

When I was in school, we started in August, in October a classmate had a c-section on a Friday (her second) and was back in class on Monday. We had clinicals on Thurs & Friday. She missed one clinical, we protected her from lifting and as much as we could with anything else. She did fine (although a little weak). Thankfully she and her baby were healthy. I think her first child was around 4 also.

Lots and lots!

A girl in my class got preg and she completed her final year practicum 8 months pregnant! She worked in a doctor's office and nurses' clinics because she didn't think she could manage the running around of ward work. She was offered a job from the facility and was allowed to start in Jan 09 - we finished in July 08. So she gets time with bub.

Other girls have left, had their babies and returned within a year to start where they left off. OF course, I'm in NZL so it might be different where you are.

Good luck, and congradulations on the widdle person you and the mister have made!:yeah:

We started in Jan of 2007. In Feb, I think it was, one classmate became a widow...a couple days later, she found out she was pregnant. She delivered over the Thanksgiving break, and she only missed a few days of classes when her husband died. She graduated this December. You can do it!

I gave birth the month before graduation. I also did my practicum on one of the busiest floors in the hospital (seven and eight months pregnant) and snuck it all in before my husband left for deployment training.

Can you tell I am proud that I made it?

Thank-you for all your replys it helps to hear other peoples stories!
