Lame Duck Congress Comes Up Lame For H-1b And Immigrant Visa/ Retrogression Relief

Published

You are new here, but just to clear a few things for you:

The H1-B series has not been available for RNs for about three years, since they started fast-tracking green cards for RNs.

Nothing is expected to be done before next summer, remember that a visa for an RN is not a top priority of the US government when they get back to work, there are a few more pressing matters, such as the war in Iraq, etc.

Unless it has something to do with the hot topic illegal immigrants, then nobody wants to discuss it, at least in the government and media... Unfortunately!

Relief can come only through cogressional intervention which is remote now! Presently, the retrogression effect not affected US health care facilities as foreign nurses who obtained visa upto NOVember '06 from the 50000 quota are still reaching. Things can change any time, when AHA feels the trouble to take up the issue!

It will probably be 6 months before a bill to lift retrogression is signed. And even then, I'd highly expect an extension of the current type of visas and NOT an open ended number of VISAs as the last Senate Bill had.

THAT provision was by a Republican Senator and the elections changed things in such a way as to most likely PREVENT an open ended number of VISAs.

Much more likely is a provision that simply recharges the number of VISAs available by the current process.
