I am in the last part of Lamar's program. It's doable but more expensive than they let on. The class price (for our class) went from 595.00 per class to 750.00 per class, and they kept changing books and required programs without notice. They did allow time to get the books but it was frustrating. They have gotten very strict on their grading and testing (I think the pass rate was low for boards) but in their defense, it's easy to "get help" on tests in an ol-line course and pass, but when you take boards you're on your own. I think that's what they are trying to get around. Overall, it's a good program, fast and the easiest pay as you go I could find. The instructor's give good feedback and they also provide academic coaches to help you along the way. HOWEVER....they are on the BON's site as "Full with warning" accredidation so beware.

Started my first job as an LVN this week at a prison facility here in Texas. I am considering maybe going on to RN sometime in the future and if so, maybe do the Lamar program. I am wondering if anyone has completed the LVN to RN via Lamar that works in corrections and if so, were you able to do your clinicals on site?

It's no longer a prereq, you take it as one of the first courses in the program.

Can someone tell me how long it takes for the application to be processed and notifications sent out of acceptance/denials?

I am in the program and started last june 2011, I am having problems with them changing how they apply test grades and it is making it hard to pass. I just failed my first class in 5 1/2 years in school. Did you have this problem? They even change the price on the classes from first quoted.

I am wanting to buy books for the program on Ebay or Amazon. Is that safe or will I have to have activation codes for any of the classes?
