Labor & Delivery/Post-partum Nursing End-Goal

Hello :)

I have been working on a cardiac/telemetry unit for a year and would like to take a BREAK and move to a less stressful floor like a med-surg or pre-op surgery floor for a little while, until I have the courses and certifications (NRP, fetal monitoring, etc) to pursue an L&D/PP position. It seems that in Southern California you either have to (a) be hired as a new grad or (b) already be in an L&D position to get a position on a L&D/PP unit. These units are so hard to get into!

Do you think it would hurt my chances of being an L&D/PP nurse in the future if I went into a periop or preop area for a while to give myself a break?

Thanks :redbeathe
