I'm an RN in Austin.. Just graduated in Dec 07 and have taken some time off to stay home with my baby. I am trying to decide where to get a job now!! I want to know what the best hospitals are work for as a Labor & Delivery nurse. I'm more drawn to Seton at the moment because of its Magnet status and because it's non-profit.. but I have connections at St. Davids and am not totally opposed to that either.

So does anyone work in L&D in Austin?? Where do you recommend working and why??

And what do you think about Brackenridge?

I will graduate in may and I have spoken with the hiring coordinater at seton for new grads. I am also interested in L&D and she let me know those jobs are hard to get for new grads :(. She said most interested in that field work in med/surg and eventually transfer. Let me know if you have a different experience because that's what I would like to do after graduating.

Thanks candiam.. yeah, since i posted this I have also been in touch with the recruiter and hiring manager at brack, and they are not hiring for L&D ANYWHERE right now.. sad!! So now I'm thinking either MedSurg, ICU, or ER for some good clinical experience, then transfer. Not ideal, but I guess we gotta take what we can get! I know St. Davids will be hiring for L&D at North Austin Medical Center, but the word is Seton offers much more nurse support and slightly better pay.
