hi! Ive applied for an assessment for RN in NSW. I can say that I know very much on the how to's in applying for bridging course in Australia since I did it on my own. I got the recommendation letter from the board and was advised to undergo a competence assessment program in the college of nursing in Burwood.

to make it short: (If u want to apply in NSW)

1. Take IELTS first, all 7 on all the components

2. Read the instructions on the website--www.nmb.nsw.gov.au

basically here are the most Important things:

a. go to PRC, request for verification of registration to be sent directly to the board

b. go to your university or college, request for transcript and nursing course description to be sent directly to the board

c. go to IDP or British Council, request for a copy of your all 7 each in all components of your report grade to be sent directly to the board

d. fill up the application form-http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/please-proceed-RN/default.aspx

(with the application form, you need to have it notarised, and pay $105 through credit card or money order etc)

that's basically the initial requirements to be sent to the nursing board

here is the information booklet that will guide you/checklist in filing your application:

http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/Info-Booklet/default.aspx

Assessment is a case to case basis but basically Overseas nurses are recommended to undergo the bridging course.

You will receive a recommendation letter from the nursing board stating the Nursing school that provides the bridging course or the school that you have to go to to get your registration training

Example of the recommendation letter:

Thank you Julia.I might give it a try, but I'll ask for my aunt's opinion first then ill decide. and I took my IELTS under british council again. I just learned yesterday that I passed and got at least 7 on all subtests, and I actually got a higher overall bandscore this time, God is good my friend. When are you retaking yours? I'll be praying for you. :)

My friends and I are planning to take the IELTS this May..Thank you for your intent of praying for me. It will mean a lot to me. I'll consider the same IELTS agent and hopefully, we pass it like you did.

In your case it wasn't just mere luck but you probably had the ability as well. You're just being modest.haha!:) It's good though because people look up to you more. And I agree, God is good and He knows you deserved what you wished for because of your ability and your good personality.:nurse: I'm sure a lot of people will support you in your endeavor my friend!

aww.. salamat. but honestly, I wasn't really sure if I'm gonna make it. I find my previous exam easier than the last one. And there were times that I stumbled in my listening test, believe it or not, I had 8 missed questions and I left it blank. lol I was like talking to God at that very moment to fill up those spaces for me. hehe and it actually pays to talk to Him that way. more genuine. :) whew but there are more steps of the process to accomplish. haha We're getting there, i hope.

i wish a positive causatum for you on your IELTS. i know you're working hard for it. :yeah:

HI. Good day everyone. Got my initial assessment from NMB-NSW. It states that I may not be eligible for the BP. I emailed them regarding this and this is their reply: they have actually received all the necessary documents and my papers are already with the case officer. Unfortunately, there was also a statement that said that on the council's discretion, applicant's from the Philippines cannot be granted the eligibility because most students coming from the Phils study only for 10 years before entering the university (they mean, Elementary for 6 years, and HS for 4 years). Australian education requires 13 years of study before they can enter the university. I already told them that I also underwent 13 years of study (because of 3 years pre-schooling) and asked if I can send additional docs but they said that it wouldn't be necessary. They also said that Universities here are not similar to Australian Universities. They gave me other options though: 1.) apply as an enrolled nurse 2.) do further study and enter as a post-graduate -- I have already inquired about this and it means that I'm going to study for 2 more years!! Tuition is soaring high as 12,000 AUD per semester!!! However, they also told me that the assessment is not yet final, and I should wait for their final assessment. But thinking about it, it seems that they aren't going to grant me that BP eligibility. I guess i'll just have to wait after July 1st for the new registration scheme. :(

May i ask if you are a second courser? Maybe it would've helped if you sent them the diploma from your first course:idea:

If you did not graduate from an aus recognized uni you'll only be assessed as EN. Denying you bp eligibilty bec you dont have 13 yrs of education is ridiculous bec first, aus educ is 12 years not 13 years and second, plenty of Filipinos have did their bp already so if that's the case then we wouldn't hear of Filipinos doing their bp and these forums will not exist in the first place. There's no muh difference in the present assessment with the natl registration assessment so I think your assessment after July will still be the same. Being 2nd or 1st courser doesn't matter bec assessment is case by case situation. Instead of studying 2 yrs, you can opt for the 1 yr conversion or just pray that a miracle will come comes July.

HI. No, i am not a second courses and I have 3 years hospital experience as well.

I don't know what's up with the council because the university where I graduated is accredited by the Australian Education Institute (AEI). I am not a second courser as well. They haven't even offered me the conversion as you've said. They just gave me the link to the recognised courses which can lead to a registration as a nurse, and conversion isn't offered on there. I am holding my breath for the national registration because among the nursing councils in the AUS states, NSW has the most expectations, so I am hoping that somehow, they will also give me other options like the options given to WA, QNC, NBV, etc... (conversion, entry as post-graduate, further study for only 3 months, BP) so I can continue my registration as nurse.

Good for you, at least you're not a second courser like me. I am really praying that they assess me as an RN.

What's the Php 101 for? If I remember right, I only paid 75 for the good standing plus of course the snail mail fee :lol2:

Yes that's the only form that I requested from PRC because they do not have a standard format for NMB's Verification of registration. They said that if I have a specific form in hand for them to fill-out then they will do that but since NMB has none then they said that the good standing will suffice. After all it says there that we are in good standing as RNs so that means we're really RNs right? :D

PM me your YM so that we can keep in touch!

HI chocokat79, I am also a second courser and I am interested in taking the BP in Australia. Would it be a problem if we took nursing as a second course? Also, I am currently registered as nurse here in UAE, but my company does not issue work certificate, does the NMB really require it? Will I still be assessed even if I lack this document?
