Hello my fellow Arizonans,
Kindred Hospital (LTACH) seems to be the only place in Phoenix currently hiring RNs. Does anyone work there? What is the culture like and the management? I would appreciate the input, good or bad!

Take my comment with a gigantic grain of salt because I'm still a nursing student. I did clinicals at a Kindred acute care hospital. The facility scared me and my classmates. It was unlike any other facility we'd seen. We all agreed we'd NOT want a loved one there.
There seemed to be a low standard of care. Many of the staff seemed of low quality. The patients are mostly stable vent patients with pneumonia, MRSA, VRE, and c.diff. I never once had a patient I didn't need to gown and glove up for.
I heard before the economy went to crap, Kindred was offering $10,000 sign on bonuses for RNs. All I can say is I know why!
You might be bored with your ICU experience, too.

A couple of my co-workers pick up shifts there, they say the money is tony the tiger GRRRREAT, but they also say they work their asses off.
Thanks for your replies. The job actually requires ICU experience. A Kindred ICU pt must be one sick pt! Interview next week - I will let you know how it goes!

The kindred ICU pt is the one in your ICU who is stable but just lingers on the vent until the dawn of time.
Not sick at all. Just lingers. On and on. Forever. Blah.
What a painful place to work.
From what I hear, most Kindred acute care hospitals have a main floor and then a little *tiny* ICU unit that might just be staffed by one nurse. This one ICU nurse often serves as the charge nurse for the regular floor where there might be 6-10 RNs and some LPNs. Which are you interviewing for? The main floor with vented patients, or the itsy bitsy ICU?
Most of the nurses at the Kindred I was at had never worked in the little ICU unit there.

Nah, that's their usual pts. I will let you know!

The itsy bitsy ICU. I hope I don't have to charge on the big unit - that would be a deal buster!
