I'm a relatively new grad and after this year I will need to keep track of my CEUs for California board of nursing. How do the veterans do it, file folder, online etc
Thanks for any info.

If you're doing your ceu's online (i.e., nursing spectrum), you can easily track them that way. I also maintain an xls which contains the spectrum classes as well as the non-online classes I've taken.

I get a printed certificate for each class I've completed, and I keep them all in a folder in my file cabinet.

Folder, backseat of my car, my employer's online system. In other words, no system lol. I'm a little beyond my first year in nursing, and in my state we didn't need CEUs for the first year, but with all the trainings and classes and assignments from work, I have more CEUs than I know what to do with.
You might find that by the end of your first year, you could lose half of your CEU certificates and still have more than enough CEUs for the BON. Well, or not. I know nothing about how it works in California.

I have the same thing for MN. I started a file for the certs and a spreadsheet for the details. Of course, I am behind in keeping up with the spreadsheet.

I keep all of mine in a 3 ring binder filled with page protectors. I make two copies. The original goes in my notebook, and a copy to my mailbox at work and a copy to my manager so it goes in my file. I also keep copies of CPR, ACLS, TNCC, ENPC cards as well as ENA membership cards and copies of state nursing licenses. Also because I was once a travel nurse, I have copies of all my titers for Hep B, measles, dates of last flu shot, TB test etc.
I keep a copy of my work history with all names, addresses and phone numbers of past employers, schools, resume, etc in the same file. This way, when I am ready to change jobs, I have everything in one place. It is easy to see at a glance too when things need to be renewed.
It's easier than a file folder for me, because it is easier to flip pages in a notebook than dig thru a folder. Of course the most recent things are at the end, or you could put them at the beginning if you like. It stores nicely on a bookshelf.

i have a similar system to Dixielee, though i think she is even more organized than i am!
I have a binder and use the plastic sleeves with several categories including:
immunizations/titers
state license info
liability insurance
thank you notes from patients/staff/management *keep these for a bad day*
CEUs!
btw, i think new grads in cali don't need to do the CEU requirement for their first renewal
