Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.
Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!
I did get in!!! I started classes this last week-first week is Academic Strategies which I though was going to be kind of a "throw away" class, but I've really enjoyed it. The instructor is awesome and really loves nursing.
Thats great! How exciting for you!! Im am trying to get into the ADN program in Vegas. It does not start until Sept. though.
Did you have to take the TEAS? Or was admission just based on the Wonderlic & KTP?
thanks Sarah! i have really enjoyed the first week and have been impressed with the level of the staff's commitment to students.
you don't have to take the TEAS-they give their own exam called the KTP. They give you a study guide and if you know the stuff that's on it-you'll do well. The test is free and they have removed the science portion. Of course, this is for Kaplan San Diego-not sure about Vegas.
Good luck!
I take the KTP test on Monday. After reviewing the study guide i think ill do well (i hope anyway). Then i guess its just a waiting game? They have a classes starting in April & Sept. but they already told me the April class was full. September works out better for me anyway since I'm due to go into labor any day now :) I REALLY REALLY hope i am accepted!!!
the lvn-rn program at kaplan is 46,000. Its about the same length as the regular adn program, but you get to skip 4 classes and 2 clinicals, so you get to leave early/stay home more. I'm going to be attending the lvn program at kaplan in march so I asked about the lvn-rn step up. Hope this helps! I know its kinda difficult to get info from kaplan unless you go for a tour
I'm a recent graduate. I really enjoyed the program. I know previously this school had a bad rep when it was Maric, but it really has turned around since it's been known as Kaplan. They do a great job at preparing you for nursing. I never received anything but compliments on my clinical skills and knowledge throughout nursing school. I also had no problem getting hired at a hospital as an RN after I was done. It took me close to a month applying to TONS of places, and I was offered a position just last week. I accepted, and now I am waiting to start working pending my board results. I should find out this week, but according to the "Pearson Trick" I think I passed. I'd recommend this school to my friends. There are other options out there for BSN too besides Kaplan U or Phoenix. I've found a few others that will take the Kaplan College units, you just have to do some digging. I also have a previous bachelor's degree so I didn't need to do any pre-req courses. Perhaps that helps as well for admission into other schools. So, yeah... worth a look here if you are getting tired of wait lists and just want to get into the field already.
Hello! I am very inspired by your success, I would like to know a few info about the program. I am scheduled to take the KTP next week. However, I've been trying to study like crazy on the entrance exam test since I do not know how it is going to be. Any tips to suggest before going into this exam? Did the nursing admission test packet help you succeed? Very sorry to bother you with questions, but is the LVN-ADN shorter months?(if you recently heard some details, if not it is okay) I do have a LVN certification with me, so I am hoping that would be a plus on my application. I truly appreciate your time reading this. Hopefully I hear from you soon. Thank you very very much and God bless!

i know a lot of people were wondering what other schools will take kaplan credits to go towards their bsn's. i have talked to quite a few students and reps since going to kaplan (did the pcat program and now started 2nd sem in adn), and they've told me that the school has an agreement with university of phoenix and you can also do it with kaplan university (with a discount!).
as for their accreditation, they are accredited by the brn (board of registered nurses) which allows you to take the nclex to obtain your license. but they do not have wasc accreditation, which would allow you to transfer to sdsu or other schools of the like for your bsn. you can however, transfer to other private universities, obtain your bsn and apply to sdsu or wherever else you want to go to complete a masters program.
as for the school, i like the program. it's challenging and keeps you on your toes. i got to skip a full semester because of my transfer credits, leaving me with only 5 semesters to do instead of 6. so my first semester was math (it didn't qualify to transfer for some reason) and fundamentals. i was on campus 4 days a week, but very short days. i had math on monday's and wednesday's and alternating tuesday's or thursday's for fundies. lab was on friday's (your longest day, if you only had those two classes). fundies was challenging because it was all about the art of nursing, and teaching you test taking skills (learning to think "gray" vs. "black and white").
a little insight for those that are trying to do vn to rn transition. the 1st semester will be your ge's and transition is on friday's (which you take in place of fundies). the vn's will be graduating after 5 semesters as well, and will not have to take pharmacology (but is recommended to audit), peds and ob. so for semester 2,3,4 you will only have med/surg as a class and clinicals (unless you have leftover ge's to take). i hope this helps. if you have any questions feel free to pm me! :)
good luck to you all!
