Kansas and Excelsior

Ok, I am trying to get a handle on EC and Kansas. I have heard that those enrolled before a certain date or those having more than 1000 hours can come in by endorsement. I can not find this on the Kansas board of nursing website. There is a FYI link on the main page, but it is broken. I did find this however in a section addressing "non traditional" schools (i.e. EC):

"Performance examinations alone do not meet the requirements of direct clinical instruction as an integral part of the program or an active process in which the student participates in nursing activities while being guided by a member of the faculty. Therefore, if programs do not have a comprehensive clinical component, graduates will not qualify for licensure in Kansas. Graduates of nursing programs that lack a clinical component who have obtained a nursing license in another state will not be qualified to obtain licensure in Kansas by endorsement. These persons must meet the Kansas qualifications for licensure."

Does this mean no EC grads period? Any info would be great.

Did you see that page? The first PDF listed there (http://www.ksbn.org/cne/BoardsDecision03162005.pdf) has what you want in the third indented paragraph -- anyone with more than 1000 hours is eligible for licensure by endorsement.

Edited to add: I agree that what you found and posted above makes it sound like no EC grads ever ever ever. Hopefully that's not the case.

Thanks, I went to that link and it seems that their link is broken because of some typos. It does clearly say that those with 1000 hours from other states can come in by endorsement. We shall see.

I sitll maintain my KS license. I know from experience that over half the flight nurses in KS are EC grads. Fortunatly the hospitals there are able to recognize a good nurse when they see one and don't care what school you graduated from. As recently as 6 months ago I know of two EC grads who got reciprocity from MO.

Yeah, I just got back from a week long visit to Kansas. We are moving to Lawrence. This week I will begin the process of licensure in KS and MO. The goal is to move there as an NP, but I want to go ahead and have my RN stuff in place. I had a great interview with a private practice that pretty much does everything but deliver and an informal meeting with the medical director of a local IHS clinic. Exciting times. I still have 7 months to go before graduation, but things are starting to roll.
