JVD in RH failure

Does nursing assess JVD to determine fluid volume status where you work?

Reason for Asking: In my reading I have found that distended JVD is indicative of fluid volume overload when assessing a pt with Right Heart Failure. My institution does not expect nursing to assess for this while the MD's use this assessment almost all the time.

JVD is just a general observation that may or may not indicate right heart dysfunction. Its a piece of the mosaic of the physical exam. Noting flat or distended neck veins on the assessment is something anyone can do. Not sure why an RN would be prohibited from noticing and noting a physical finding.

JVD is a line item in our charting in Epic, with a Yes/No option.
