Just Got a Nurse Tech Job in the ICU

Published

Specializes in CVICU/ER.

I can't tell you what a shock this is to me. My hospital doesn't have techs in the ICU and never has. I talked to the new director who is a great person and expressed to him my interest in a tech position. He explained to me that he didn't have a tech spot, but might be able to work on something in the future. He told me about a skill session with ICU nurses and invited me...I went, but thought nothing of it.

A couple of weeks ago he called and offered me a tech position that I was dreaming about. I am still going through orientation and have a phenomenal preceptor and group of nurses that are more than willing to teach an eager nursing student. I feel like a fish out of water as I only have one semester of nursing school under my belt, but the excitement is incredible as my mind is engrossed with learning as much as I can.

The director told me that he wanted me to use this to add to my school. He told me that I could do rotations in other parts of the hospital and they would try and cater patient care to what I am covering in class. I could not be happier. Just wanted to share the good news with all my fellow nursing students.

what a great opportunity! congrats:yeah:have a blast

That sounds like an awesome experience. And that director seems awesome too!

That sounds GREAT! Now I'm super jealous. I can't wait to start working as a nurse tech. The ICU is where I want to work too! Best of luck!

I've been trying to get on at the hospital for 4 months now so I can work 12hr shifts on weekends and study throughout the week while I'm going to school.
