Just amazed at how some people waste their admission

Published

I'm taking a summer intro Nursing class, for some it was required if they didn't pass their entrance exam. I think I am among the few that were not required to take it. Well we have a girl in the class that in her profile said how she didn't really want to be a nurse she guesses she'll see how it is. This same girl has been a pain in the butt in the class. She doesn't pay attention to the professors and has been told on two occasions to wake up since she was sleeping in the last class she got kicked out for being disruptive and today she was talking back at the professor for another correction she got. Here is this girl who needs this credit to stay in the program and is barely pulling a passing grade. It just makes me mad at the hundred or so people that didn't get into the program that would have jumped at the chance to get an acceptance letter. It just amazes me as to how she even got in since she had not completed her A&P requirement (that's what she got yelled at for today, studying for A&P) when there were other applicants that I know completed all their core classes like I did and were a few tenths of a point behind me and were waitlisted. Anyone here have a similar experience with a fellow student where you just stood there with your mouth hanging open saying HUH? I'm hoping the fall will weed her out or she'll get with the program and improve. Or perhaps she'll realize she's not interested in the program and will give someone else a chance.

I feel yah. People are always taking advantage of the system even when you know deep down inside, they don't belong there!

It's too bad a good student was bumped because of her. Hopefully she'll drop out or flunk out soon.

I couldn't believe in pre-reqs how many times I heard somebody say they didn't study or even skim over a chapter before a major exam. I also heard the same kind of comments while waiting to take the entrance exam for nursing school. Really, how good of a grade can you hope to make without some serious studying?

Didn't they get the 'memo' that entrance to nursing schools has become extremely competitive? (400 for 40 places at my college) Were these people pushed into applying for nursing school, or were they just incredibly lazy? Why did they waste their time and, at the same time, take up a spot for somebody that is sincere in improving their life? Don't know the answers to those questions, but I didn't see many of their faces at orientation!

That SUCKS!!! In our class we had some serious students BUT there was a girl who had to repeat a semester and came back, finally finished (just barely). So fine - but last I heard she had not yet taken the NCLEX and we graduated in December. She was just working as a CNA - not even an IP nurse! When asked why she said she wasn't sure she "wanted the responsibility of being a nurse"!!!!!! :angryfire

Why bother with all that school if you can't hack being a nurse? Crazy, huh?

Such a shame because there are many who woul do anything to fill THAT spot and kiss the ground at all times. :angryfire

It is sad how folks take the opportunity to recieve and education for granted.

I did it when I was younger. Now that I have to pay for it, I'm a whole lot more serious.

It sounds like she has never been hungry... She doesn't understand or appreciate the opportunity nursing provides. Hopefully she will be weeded out because she is distracting from your studies and those of your classmates.

We had a girl in class (parents paid for everything.) that said "after i'm done with nursign school, i'm going to a fashion design school. That's what i really want to do". It must be nice to live on that kind of whim. I'm thinking that if you REALLY want to design clothes, why not go to school for THAT instead of nursing school? :stone

At my school there has been an explosion in student going for nursing...well I have come across many who are forced by the parents to take that route overlooking the fact that their child has no care whatsoever about being there, are barely making it and avoid class at all costs. It is sad to hear them say I hate this and I don't want to be a nurse but the parents want me too. :stone

Yes, these are the same students who have EVERYTHING paid for, have never worked a day in their lives and all they need to have it the will and care for what they are studying. The thing is that they know about the competitiveness and know that they will more than likely not make it into the nursing program after completing the pre-req's. I feel bad for the parents, but they shouldn't try to live their dream by forcing their child to become somehting they don't want.

Her parents didn't force her, that was the sad thing.

(This was the same girl that couldn't figure out why she couldn't pass med-surg, yet the plastic shrink wrap was still on the book.)
