Jobs OUTSIDE the Hospital setting for new grads??

Published

I am about to enter nursing school, and I have a ton of questions (I love this site!!). One of the questions that keeps popping up in my head is what are the job opportunities for a New Grad outside of a hospital? I know for the most part many or most new nurses get a job at a hospital with the 12 hour shifts, but i was just wondering if there are other options for a newbie right away or do you just get a job at a hospital. Please tell me your experience and where you work right now, thanks so much in advance!!

I am not a RN yet, but I know the answer to this question. There are plenty of jobs outside of the hosptial setting. In fact, the true shortage is OUTSIDE the hospital. LTC, Home Health, community organizations etc... The pay is not as good as acute care in many of these places but there are positives that outwiegh pay. I work as Nurse Extern in the hospital setting right now.... GL!

Can you tell me what LTC is? Just starting nursing school so not up on all the lingo yet!!! Thanks!
