Jobs in Florida - NEW RN

Published

is it just me or is finding a job as a new rn impossible?? maybe it's just miami, fl but there are absolutely no opportunities for us. how can we gain experience if no one is willing to offer it? anyone can facebook or type! what's with all the online applications?? don't you want to know if i am in good working condition? wouldn't you like to see what kind of person you are hiring on paper in real life? are they cheerful? are they ambitious enough to show up and actually job hunt? a new rn has flexibility and ambition at least myself i can be molded to any facilities policies and procedures and i want to learn everything the right way! an rn from another facility is not on that level they are coming in "knowing" what to do but they do it sloppy and unmotivated they aren't taking individual time for all of their patients!! noone cares about those aspects of the job though, right? do my 2 years of clinical rotations at one of the busiest hospitals in miami, fl mean nothing to a corporation? any advice from my fellow rns? i am currently working on getting all my necessary certifications to try and increase my chances on getting hired (pals, acls, ekg). i don't know what else to do... :crying2:[color=deepskyblue]

I know where you're coming from. I am from Orlando. I passed my NCLEX on a first try last month and yeah, it's true I sent out first applications this week but in a matter of hours I got 3 NO's for positions I was certain I am qualified for (I have 2 years of experience working on PCU overseas in Europe as an RN) in a matter of hours. How can they tell I am not qualified and not what they're looking for just like that, without even giving me a chance?!

I also got a call from another hospital last night and the lady said even tho she's going to forward my resume and try to get me an interview, it's a bad time of the year to be job hunting because all new grads that had internship at that same hospital would be hired before me.

I am already frustrated! I love nursing so much, I put almost a year into getting all the necessary paperwork done and thousands of $$ in order to be able to sit for NCLEX and now that everything is done I wish for a job so bad and I just hope I dont get discouraged.

Yes ur notAlone many hospitals have "scholars" programs n they get dibs on grad positions. Corporate america is taking over with the need for nurses you'd think they'd bend the rules. There are no laws on NUR pt ratios here I've seen 1 RN with 7 PTs another hospital w the same position open for over 6 months... But I'm not qualified? According to my license I am what's the delay? Unfortunately if you don't know the RN director somewhere or pay even more for a private institution with "scholars" that find u the job, you're just a fish out of water :(

I got another "NO" just now...it came via email.

Maybe I should get all the certifications now...but I don't know if they are really the reason I am not getting called up for ANY interviews.

Did you try any LTC positions? Most of the hospital positions here in Jax want experience. I had no trouble getting in with an LTC facility. After working there a month, I am not sure I want to stay with it, but it will give me experience and I can launch to a hospital job from there.....one of my previous classmates/coworkers have just left for hospital positions....

Good Luck.

What web sites did you search? What kind of work as an RN do you do in LTC?

I have been a new grad since last October. I have put in over 265 applications and have only been called to one interview. I have ACLS, PALS and in the BSN program. All told me I need experience. We live in Miami Fl, and I have applied to every hospital. Many do the Versant Residency program and they want you to contract out years with them. Good luck! I finally got a position with Mollen Immunization Clinics just to get some experience.

I was looking at Mollen Imm. too but it's only seasonal and im still thinking if i should apply or not.

thats sounds good. a lot of hospitals here in miami arent considering ltc or alf "acute care" so you still dont qualify as "experienced". so ridiculous i went to an open house today where they mentioned internship programs things may look up itll still be MONTHS before they launch tho :( i need to move out of my parents house!

The LTC I work in has more subacute/acute beds than LTC. That is the better side to transition to hospital, IMHO. It is in Jacksonville and we are hiring.... West Jax Health and Rehab.

Hi,

I have been sending out resumes w/o success. I've applied with a few HHC agencies, the prisons, jails, corrections and pysch.....

I haven't tried LTC. The hosptials are pretty much on lock-down when it comes to new grads. Need 1 year of experience.

Thanks for the tip.
