Job outlook in Dallas, TX for new grad

Published

Hi all,

I'm about to graduate from a nursing program in El Paso, TX, but want to move back near family in Dallas, TX. I saw a post from 2012 that said the market in Dallas was pretty saturated which is making me worried. I'd probably be able to find a job quickly in El Paso, but was wondering if anyone could tell me about the job outlook in Dallas. And what fields are there the most vacancies for?

I'm interested in ICU, ER, Med/Surg settings, preferrably adult, but as I'll be a new grad, I won't be as picky about whether it is for adult, or peds. And open to other fields as well, but those are my preferred.

Thank you!

The Dallas area employment market for new grads is still saturated. I work at a facility in Fort Worth. We employ a number of new grads who commute from Dallas, Plano, Carrollton and other northern suburbs because they cannot find jobs closer to home.

Thank you so much for your reply! So is it mainly Dallas that's saturated?

I'd be open to living in Arlington, Irving, Fort Worth...just within about 1hr from Garland/Plano area since that's where my family is. Glad to hear at least Fort Worth is more accepting of new grads. Some of my family lives in CA and they've asked me to come down, but I've heard new nurse job prospects there are bleak.

All these areas are saturated BUT an co-intern of mine moved from ARKANSAS and got a spot here as an intern! It's possible but you gotta stand out and have some kind of tech experience usually 😃
