Job Dilemma- Need Opinions!!

Published

I currently work 24 hours/week overnights at an assisted living facility.

Recently, I've been having issues with my DON, things that just make my head spin. Our facility is a former Masonic Home, bought out 6 months ago with a new CEO etc. In the last 2 weeks, they have fired 4 fulltime employees. For very suspicious reasons. I am thinking they are struggling financially (this is why they were bought out in the first place).

Oh. And I LOATHE overnights.

Today I was offered a part-time homecare position. Days. Minimum of 24 hours. I want it!

Here's the catch. My boss at my current job gave me a good reference for this job. And she works there perdiem. And may possibly end up training me on some cases if I accept it.

Would it be totally skeezy of me to quit my current job for this job? Knowing she helped me to get it thinking it was for "extra hours?"

She could just as easily nix you for the job or sabotage you once she finds out what you did. I would discuss this discreetly with the potential job supervisor once you are hired into the position. You do not want this person to poison your future job. Good luck.

I didn't really "do" anything. I applied to this for a per diem position, for extra hours.

They offered me more, with the potential for fulltime.

Sorry. I got the impression that you would quit your present job after you get the new one.

If I accept this job, yes I will quit my current one. But I didn't plan on this new job offering me the amount of hours they did. I was only applying as per diem.

I agree that open communication is KEY! Or you can work at the new place 24hrs/week and per diem at the current place for a while....Then when the new place offers you full time, you have a legitimate reason to quit. I always tell my employers that I prefer not to work overtime due to safety reason for me and my patients!

Work the new job for a while before you quit. You may not like it and your boss could mess you up.

i agree -- work both jobs for at least a while. when and if the new job offers you full time, then you can quit your current job!
