Why is January National Blood Donor Month? According to the American Red Cross, blood donations drop off during and right after the winter holidays. 13,000 donations are needed daily to keep the blood supply ready and available for the more than 2600 hospitals, clinics and cancer centers across the United States. 38% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood, but less than 10% do so.
