Do you mind if I ask you a question? I am getting ready to apply for spring 2012 and I am freaking out. I already have a BA from Vcu and have made good grades in my pre nursing (3.7). I am worried that I will not get in.
I have a CNA , a med aide and ChpT license. But I have not been working, just a full time student pushing thru pre nursing.
What do you think helped push your application thru? Any suggestion for someone dying to be in your shoes?
Super congrats to you!!!!! I think you have won 1/2 the battle already

Congrats! Just wanted to encourage you not worry! You have faith and believe that hard work (3.7) will payoff. Stand on faith and don't give up!!!!!!!! I too have just been accepted into the LPN to RN program at JSRCC fall 2011. I am excited and in spite of what people said about my chances of getting in, I made it!
Carolinesmom, i stressed so bad about this...so i know what your going through. i have a 3.75 gpa and i got in. definitely go to the the information session because they will explain alot of how they make the decision- they separate the people who have a bachelors and who dont when they make decisions...at least thats what they told me.
Basically when you apply, they put your information (gpa and kaplan scores) into a spreadsheet and pull the top people. they give points for scores, ex: people who have 2.5-2.75 gpa get 1 pt, and it goes up from there, so if you have 3.7 you should get 5 points (that the max pts you can get) and then they look at the kaplan scores and they do a point scale based on your scores (individually) they only look at the math and reading, but you have to take the whole test with the science and writing..you get 2 tries and thats it! I freaked the first time and i thought i would do terrible on the math section, but i actually did better on the math than the reading, my scores were in the 80's, but the second time i did better.. i think 86% for math and 82% for reading...(definitely take it twice just to try and boost your score, its the exact same test both times, and there arent very many questions for each section so be careful because if you miss alot, that will bring the % down. i got the study book and it helped alot, seriously dont even study the science portion, its a waste of time, focus on the math and reading only)
They only pick 60 people every semester and i'm not sure how many of them have bachelors.
I hope all goes well for you! It sounds like you'll be fine though!
GOOD LUCK!!

Hey NervousNicole, I just wanted to know how you did on your Kaplan & were you able to submit your application for the fall "12" RN program?
