Hi, when hanging an IV medication in clinical what information do you need to have ready for your instructor. I need to able to manager my IV sites better and need some guidance.

I'd wager confirmation of the 6 rights, indication for the medication, side-effects to be aware of, and depending on your instructor maybe mechanism of action.

Yes, that's a given. I'm looking for more specific information regarding infusion therapy. We were told we need to make sure we know the difference between a flush bag and maintenance fluids, what's having in the pts room, how old the tubes etc, how the IV flushes. Is there anything else I need to know to manage my IV sites/lines well.

Know what meds can and can't be administered through a peripheral line.

Know where to find medication incompatibility between two medications administered at the same time.

Know how to assess a IV site prior to administering a medication.

Be able to tell her exactly how you assessed the insertion site/dressing and the vein proximal to it, and what you would do if you assessed any problem, for example .... (doesn't run, doesn't draw (if this applies) inflammation, patient reports pain...)
