I just recently ran across this website and I'm glad I did. I currently have a B.S. degree and am interested in going back to school to be an RN. I was planning on trying to get into IUPUI's accelerated, 2nd degree program. I've already registered for many of the prerequisites for summer and fall. After reading on this website, I've discovered how competitive the accelerated program is. I had no idea it would be so difficult to get into! Now am left wondering if I'll even be able to get into the program after I go through all the prerequisites.
I currently work full time and will need to get all the prerequisites done on a part time basis before quitting my current job. Due to financial restrictions, I can't be without a job for too long.....thus the reason I was looking into accelerated programs. I was wondering what others thought of trying to get an associated degree at Ivy tech (etc), then maybe a RN-BSN track? Does anyone know if IUPUI's RN-BSN program is just as competitive as the accelerated program? I'm 32 years old and really didn't want to go this route....don't want to be 40 when I'm done with everything. I ultimately want to get an MSN in order to be NP.
Any suggestions?

I've been giving some serious thought to what I want to do also. I have issues with finances also so I need to finish quickly so I can work. I am engaged also and we are holding off on getting married until school is finished because I will lose all my financial aid when we get married and move in together.
I have decided on Ivy Tech for my associates, and I recently found out that there is a RN-MSN track offered online through Valpo. I'm not completely down with all the details yet but it's something I'm looking into. At any rate, I will be able to work as an RN after 3 semesters.

How will you get through the ivy tech program in 3 months to work as an RN?
Oh...about the Valpo thing....
that is an agreement between Ivy Tech and Valpo as of 2007. I guess it's similar to the programs they have set up where your entire degree will transfer into IUPUI, BSU, etc and let you start their BSN program as a Jr. I read somewhere that if you enter the RN-MSN track program at Valpo, all the undergrad classes are offered at Ivy Tech price. I will look more into it tomorrow to clarify because like I said before, details are sketchy. I just happened across it. Anywhoooo......good luck with figuring it all out. I'm still waiting on acceptance letters to go out for Fall at Ivy Tech so I will soon find out if BALD is a good look for me.
3 semesters.....
I have all my pre-reqs and co-reqs complete. All I have left is the nursing core.
Maybe it's 4 semesters? On my list, starting with Complex Med Surg, all the classes say Semester 3 or 4. I don't know if that means we have the option to take them all together in the 3rd semester? Anyone know? There are only 3 classes that say semester 3 or 4. I'm not sure if they are really hard classes that cant be taken together or what.

If you already have your BS, can't you do a direct-entry MSN?
There's actually a 34 page thread about direct-entry here:

Here's how it goes at Ivy Tech (Indy):
Semester 1- Fundamentals (lecture and lab), Pharm, Med Surg I (lecure and clinical)
Semester 2-Med surg II (lecture and clinical), Healthcare concepts, Peds and OB (lecture and clinical)
Semester 3 and 4 are interchangable...meaning you may have one or the other first..but you cannot take both at the same time, and they preety much tell you which one you are taking first...
Semester 3-OB II complex family- ( lecture and lab), psychiatric nursing ( lecture and lab)
Semester 4- Med surg III (lecture and lab)...then Graduation!!!!
4 semesters total-hope that helps...I am counting down for Dec 08 graduation..8 months to go!
