I finally decided to get my Rn after 4 years after my Lpn. Everytime I think of it, my heart startes beating out of my chest and I get a strange sensation of wanting to cry. I know I'll be ok once I start but I'm soooo scared of starting school again. I need to do this because even though I love my job its not what I have always wanted to do, sooo here it goes. I have to take all my prereqs because I didn't take any college courses in high school, hopefully I'll test out of some of them but if not oh well. I can only take 2 classes each semester until the nursing stuff comes in then I'll have to work every weekend and one 12 hour shift during the week to stay fulltime where I'm at. Which means I won't qualify for student loan because I'll be less than fulltime. It's going to be hard working fulltime, carting my kids around after school and do homework not to mention the money. Augghhhhhhh:sniff: hopefully I can finish my Rn in less than 3 years. probably sooner but that is my goal. Has anyone ever had an experiance like mine? Did it work out for you?

First of all, everything will be ok!
I've been an LPN for 3 yrs and decided to go back to school to get my RN degree. I'm half way finished. I'll be working 30 hrs a week and goin to class 4 days a week. It is not easy, but it can be done.
It is scary and a bit overwhelming at times. But it will be well worth it when you are finished. Take one day at a time.
Check with Ed financial. com. You may be eligable to get a loan while taking 6 or more credits.
Good luck to ya,
God Bless

I've finally went back after 15 yrs of being a LPN, working full time, 2 kids + wife, and 2 dogs. Try not to stress about it and keep the coffee strong!

That is good to get started on it and if you can ever take more classes maybe it will go faster.

Hey, I have been going back since 1982 so don't feel bad at all. I would just say don't do what I did and have more than 5 years in between classes. I have lost some credits due to that.

Hey, in another three years you'll be three years older with or without your RN. So suck it up and go for it. You can do it. And you will.

I went back to school after almost 20 years. I had no college credits from high school either so I had to plug through like you are planning on. I had to take a class or two, sometimes three a semester. I usually knew how many credit hours I could take a semester and still keep my job, raise my children and be a wife. Usually 8-9 credits a semester was plenty. I could do 10 but it was tricky. I took summer classes as well, usually just one but all in all I plugged along for 3 1/2 years until I got done and let me tell you the rewards are sweet in the end in more ways than one. Good luck!
